/ 01 Industrial marketing

How a buying committeepicks a supplier

Several people judge an industrial purchase, each from a different angle, and most of that judging happens before your sales team is invited in. PromotEdge plans B2B (business-to-business) marketing for Indian manufacturers of engineering goods, chemicals, electrical equipment and other industrial products.

We make you easy to find, and easy to check before anyone shortlists you.

What is digital marketing for the manufacturing industry? Search, LinkedIn, email, online ads and a spec-led website, all used to help buyers find and check an industrial supplier. The aim is more RFQs (requests for quotation) for your sales team, alongside trade shows and distributors.

Cycles run from weeks for repeat items to many months for capital equipment. The financial year starts in April, and supplier decisions often bunch up before March.

How do you promote a manufacturing company? Our eight steps, in order: spec-led product pages, manufacturing SEO (search engine optimisation), Google Ads and LinkedIn by role. Then technical content, a supplier pack, trade shows run as campaigns, and distributor support.

Makers who sell abroad can read our exporters page. Makers of switches, wires and fans can read electricals and appliances. Makers of products that go into buildings can read digital marketing for building materials.

/ 02 What usually gets in the way

What gets in the wayand the way through.

“We get enquiries, but they're students and job seekers.”

Two qualifying questions and LinkedIn by role keep students out. AI sorts the real RFQs.

This is mine

“Our website is a brochure from years ago. Sales does everything else.”

Rebuild the website around spec-led product pages, datasheets, application notes and certificates. Then the committee can research without you.

This is mine

“Procurement keeps asking for the same documents.”

Put current certificates, test reports and vendor-registration papers in one downloadable supplier pack. It saves time on both sides.

This is mine

“Our distributors don't use anything we send them.”

Our trade and channel marketing team asks distributors what they need. It then builds short product sheets and co-branded templates. We add training.

/ 04 Order to start

Start here,in this order.

StepWhat we doWhy
1. StrategyPick segments and applications to lead with, and a position to be known for. Plan export markets and tie the budget to the RFQ pipeline.Committees shortlist specialists, not suppliers who sell everything.
2. DigitalSpec-led product pages, SEO, Google Ads, LinkedIn by role, and RFQ forms that reach sales.Engineers start with search. Hard to find means dropped.
3. Mainline advertisingPR (public relations) for plant launches and orders, plant films, annual reports and outdoor near industrial clusters.Finance judges a supplier's stability by its reputation.
4. BTL (below the line)Trade shows run as campaigns, customer days, distributor meets and technical seminars.Face-to-face proof settles doubts no brochure can.

In process industries, plan around shutdowns: spares and upgrades get bought then.

/ 05 Cost

What industrial marketing costs

We don't publish a price list. After a 30-minute strategist call, a written quote follows within 2 working days. Ad spend is paid at actuals, and you approve it first.

What affects the cost

  • Product lines and applications to cover
  • Depth of technical content and engineer review time
  • LinkedIn and Google Ads spend
  • Shows and films in the year, and export markets

How we quote

  1. We talk about your products and buyers, and the RFQs you want
  2. We review your website and RFQ handling, then write the scope
  3. A written quote follows within 2 working days. Nothing starts until you approve it

What you get in the quote

  • Product lines and applications covered
  • Technical content your engineers review
  • Monthly SEO and ad work, with a report
  • Shows and films, quoted as projects

How it is billed

Way of workingWhen it fits
Monthly retainerContent, SEO, LinkedIn, paid search and reporting; minimum 3 months, 30 days' notice to stop
Project feeA website rebuild (usually 4 to 6 weeks), a plant film or a show campaign. We confirm the timeline in the quote
At actualsAd spend and stall build, with printing and press fees, shown before you approve

Ad budgets are paid to platforms and media owners. Our fees are separate, agreed in writing.

Every client and project is different. The cost depends on the effort it takes, so we price after the first call.

AI for manufacturing:where it helps today.

Real business problems, from sales to back office, each with a plain AI fix. A person stays in charge of every step.

sales

India's engineering exports to the US fell in October 2025, with US tariffs named as a main factor. Exporters now need buyers in other markets.

The AI fix AI researches buyers in new markets from trade-fair lists and past enquiries, drafts first emails in the buyer's language and tracks follow-ups. Salespeople review every email and negotiate.

marketing

Most small and medium firms in a SIDBI survey still market the traditional way, which holds back how many new buyers they reach.

The AI fix AI turns data sheets and past quotes into product pages and WhatsApp replies, and sorts website and portal enquiries by product and size. Sales staff check every quote.

The manufacturing market in depth

Market size and trend

EEPC India says engineering exports hit a record 122.43 billion US dollars in FY 2025-26, about 28% of goods exports. The government's Annual Survey of Industries counts 2.10 crore people in registered factories in 2024-25. They added ₹26.94 lakh crore of value, up 9.59%. These are different counts, so do not add them.

Source: EEPC India, Brief Profile, read 10 October 2026; ie2 magazine, June 2026. The statistics ministry's survey note, 30 September 2026, as reported by IBEF, 5 October 2026. Growth is at current prices

How buyers decide

Our view: an engineer asks a colleague or past supplier, then searches the part, grade or standard. The committee checks drawings, certificates and references. Finance looks at price, delivery and whether you will last. A slow reply or a missing datasheet drops you off the list.

What buyers expect

In their words, roughly: "Can you meet my drawing? Show me the certificate. How soon can you deliver?" Few say the rest aloud, but they judge you on it. They want the same quality in every batch, one named contact, and an honest word when you are late.

How manufacturers here sell

Dealer-led: many tools, cables and pumps reach buyers through distributors. Building materials and construction equipment work the same way.

Supply to big makers: a few large buyers approve you once, then reorder, as in automotive.

Public buyers: tenders, and GeM (Government e-Marketplace), the government's own buying portal.

Export: foreign buyers want certificates and a face at the show. See our business models guide.

Where it is heading, and AI today and next

The 2025-26 Union Budget announced a National Manufacturing Mission for small, medium and large industries.

AI today can answer RFQ forms, sort real enquiries from students and draft follow-ups. Next, it may name suppliers from clear spec pages and certificates. It cannot make an engineer trust your part: see our AI systems.

People who scaled the category

Baba Kalyani is chairman and managing director of Bharat Forge. The company's page says he has led it for over five decades. The page describes a rise from a regional player to a global forging name.

Anil Rai Gupta is chairman and managing director of Havells. Its leadership page says he joined in 1992 and shaped its marketing. In 2003 he guided it beyond pure industrial products.

A brand journey worth knowing: Polycab

Polycab began in 1964 as an electrical goods store and grew into making cables and wires. It entered switches in 2013, then fans and LED lighting in 2014.

In January 2015 it ran a TV campaign, Connection Zindagi Ka. The aim was to give it a fresh identity with consumers. In 2023 its tagline changed to Ideas.Connected.

What you can do, and how we would deliver

What you can do, and what is not ours

Keep your certificates, drawings and test reports in order. Name one person to own datasheets and the RFQ inbox.

Certification and lab tests come from the bodies that issue them. IndiaMART and GeM are portals you join yourself.

We take the website, content, ads, shows and tracking.

How we would deliver, and why each step

We start with strategy. Pick the products and buyers to lead with, because committees shortlist specialists.

Then digital, because engineers search before they call. Then plant films and PR, because finance trusts a known name.

We end with shows and distributor meets, because meeting face to face settles doubts.

Saurav Agarwal, our Founder and CEO, takes the strategy call, the business review and the budget logic. Shivanand Mishra, our Digital Marketing Lead, runs the SEO audits, the B2B lead generation and the reporting.

B2B lead generation

Buyers send a drawing and a delivery date, so a quotable RFQ is the lead, not a form fill. List a few hundred target companies. Reach their plant and purchase people with LinkedIn ads and your own sales team's calls. Score each lead, and pass quote-ready ones to the right engineer through your CRM. IndiaMART says a BuyLead goes to the suppliers of that product, so price comes first there. Keep it for small orders, and compare cost per order. The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules, 2025 ask for a clear consent notice before you email or call.

Source: IndiaMART Help, Buy Lead page. PIB backgrounder on the DPDP Rules, 17 Nov 2025. The Rules were notified on 14 Nov 2025

Trade shows

Treat a show as a three-month campaign, and pick it by who visits, not size. Machine tool makers plan around IMTEX. Their body, IMTMA, holds IMTEX and IMTEX Forming in alternate years at BIEC in Bengaluru. It also holds expos in Delhi and Pune. Book meetings six weeks before. Build the stall around a live demo. Follow up ready-to-quote visitors within two working days. WhatsApp them only after they opt in. Small makers can check the Procurement and Marketing Support scheme. It sits with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). It aims to help firms join trade fairs. Our trade show guide shows how to plan a show and measure what it returns.

Apparel and textiles (B2B manufacturers)

Your buyers include importers and overseas buyers who source garments from India. Show your range, minimum order, lead time and certificates on one page for each product group. The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) is the official body of apparel exporters. It holds the India International Garment Fair twice a year, with over 350 exhibitors. Textile and apparel exports were USD 37.75 billion in FY 2024-25. In December 2025 the Ministry of Textiles said it is watching carbon-border and labour rules abroad. Selling your own label to shoppers? See D2C (direct to consumer) fashion.

Source: PIB, Ministry of Textiles, 12 Dec 2025, release 2202865. Exports with handicrafts were USD 37,755.0 million in FY 2024-25. PIB, 16 Dec 2025, release 2204546: rules abroad under watch. AEPC, About AEPC page, read 2026-10-10

Chemicals

Our view: factories buy chemicals by grade and purity, from traders or direct from the maker. They ask first for the data sheet and the test report. One rule: the 1989 rules on hazardous chemicals say every container must be clearly labelled. The factory must also keep a safety data sheet. CHEMEXCIL, set up by the Commerce Ministry in 1963, helps exporters meet buyers abroad. A page for each grade with a data sheet to download works well. The plant and the lab are not ours.

Source: Manufacture, Storage and Import of Hazardous Chemical Rules, 1989 (S.O. 966(E)), rule 17, copy on the Punjab Pollution Control Board site. CHEMEXCIL, Brief Profile

Electrical equipment

Our view: the electrician and the distributor decide the brand for a home. Big users buy on tender. One rule: the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) makes its mark compulsory on transformers and motors. Household switches and breakers need it too, under an order of 17 February 2003. Sell only marked goods. Electrician meets with a points scheme work well. So does a datasheet for each product. The factory is not ours.

Source: BIS, products under compulsory certification, page updated 8 October 2026. Standards: transformers IS 1180, motors IS 12615, switches IS 3854, breakers IS 12640

Engineering

Our view: buyers are makers and project firms. They check drawings and tolerances, then ask for test reports. EEPC India, the engineering exporters' council, reports engineering exports of USD 122.43 billion from April 2025 to March 2026. One rule: the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) makes its mark compulsory on steel pipe flanges and roller chains. So a maker of these needs a licence. A capability sheet and an enquiry page for each product work well. The machines and the lab are not ours.

Claims, disclosures and ESG for manufacturers

Engineers and auditors check industrial marketing.

Technical claims. The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) Code wants specs to match the datasheet and the product supplied. Performance claims need test data under stated conditions.

Certifications. Show only certificates you hold today. Many products need compulsory certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under the BIS Act, 2016. Update the website when one lapses.

Listed firms. SEBI's Listing Regulations, 2015 may need news of a large order to reach the stock exchanges first. The 1,000 largest by market value also publish a sustainability report (BRSR).

Green claims. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued greenwashing guidelines in October 2024. Words like green, sustainable or eco-friendly need proof, and recyclable needs third-party checks.

Customers and exports. Name customers or show logos only with written permission. Overseas markets have their own claim rules.

General guidance, not legal advice. Have legal and quality teams review material before release.

AI for the back office

finance

HR

Most manufacturing employers in India say they have trouble finding the skilled people they need, so each applicant needs a quick, fair look.

The AI fix An HR assistant screens applicants against the skills needed, books interviews on WhatsApp and answers new joiners' questions. HR and supervisors make every hiring and promotion decision.

/ 10 Learn from the leaders

What we can learn from the leadersin Industrial and manufacturing.

Well-known Indian brands, each with one plain lesson for an owner in your line of work. Names only, as public examples.

Fevicol (Pidilite)

Talk first to the people who use your product every day, even if the usual way is to promote it through shops.

What they did The brand says two brothers made Fevicol in 1959, a synthetic alternative to animal glue. They promoted it directly to carpenters. Promoting to retail stores was the norm then.

Source: Fevicol, brand About page (company's own statement, read Oct 2026)

Polycab

Make your name known in one product first. Then add nearby products under the same name, as buyers already know you.

What they did Polycab's history page says the family set up a cable and wire factory in 1975. It entered switches in 2013, then fans and LED lighting in 2014.

Source: Polycab, company history page (company's own statement, read Oct 2026)

Asian Paints

Give buyers simple online tools to choose with, such as a colour quiz or photo search, so they can decide before they call.

What they did Asian Paints' website lists a colour quiz, a wall paint finder, photo search, and store and contractor finders. The firm says four friends set it up in 1942.

Source: Asian Paints, company about page (company's own statement, read Oct 2026)

Astral

Keep a dated list of your launches and show your dealer and distributor count. Buyers can see you are easy to reach.

What they did Astral's milestones page lists a CPVC piping launch in 1998, then new products through 2023. It lists 1150+ distributors and 36500+ dealers, the company's own claim.

Source: Astral, company about page (company's own statement, read Oct 2026)

Havells

If trade buyers already trust your name, think about carrying it into nearby consumer products, and plan the marketing for that move.

What they did Its leadership page says that in 2003 Havells moved from pure industrial products to consumer products as well. Chairman Anil Rai Gupta guided the shift, the page says.

Source: Havells, leadership page (company's own statement, read Oct 2026)

Bharat Forge

Name the industries you serve on your website, and keep the list current. Buyers in those industries can then see you know their field.

What they did Its leadership page says it grew from a regional player into a globally recognised name in forging and precision engineering, serving automotive, aerospace, defence, energy and infrastructure.

For manufacturers and industrial brands

Tell us what's not working. We'll show you where the RFQs are.

Or leave your number. A strategist calls you in one working day.

We use these details only to call you back. Privacy notice.

Straight answers.

  • Because buyers check online. Engineers search for specs, and procurement checks suppliers before anyone replies. A supplier hard to find or check is often dropped before the RFQ. We judge digital marketing for manufacturers on qualified enquiries and RFQs, not clicks.

  • Make it easy to find, then easy to check and reach. Build a page for each product, and appear on the searches engineers type. Reach buyers by role on LinkedIn. Add technical content and trade shows, plus distributor support and RFQ follow-up.

  • People usually list SEO (search engine optimisation), paid ads and content marketing. They add social media, email, influencer and affiliate marketing. A manufacturer rarely needs all seven. We start with SEO, LinkedIn, technical content and Google Ads. We add email once enquiries flow and sales can follow them up.

  • Yes. For machine tools at IMTEX and most industrial categories, shows remain one of the few places buyers meet suppliers in person. Returns depend on meetings booked in advance and follow-up within days. We plan shows as campaigns, with a live demo at the stall and a reply to every visitor.

  • Paid search and LinkedIn can bring early enquiries after launch. Rankings and reputation take longer, and matter more in long cycles. We track qualified enquiries and RFQs with your sales team. We confirm the timeline in the quote. It depends on your products and how fast sales follows up.

  • Engineers search for a product type, grade, size or application, not your company name. SEO means a clear page for each product. It has specs and datasheets that Google can read, checked by your engineers. Results usually come in 3 to 6 months.

  • We won't claim to be the best. Ask any agency, including us: Have you sold to buying committees? Can you show results from past work? Do you measure RFQs, not clicks? Do the seniors you meet do the work? Also ask who will run your account, how often they report, and who owns the ad accounts.

  • It depends on scope, so we don't publish a price list. The drivers are product lines and technical content, plus ad budgets and your shows and films. Ad spend is billed at actuals. A written quote follows within 2 working days of the first call.
