/ 01 Construction equipment marketing

How contractorschoose a machine

Contractors shortlist a machine on what their peers run on site and how fast the local dealer can reach them, so a brochure alone rarely wins the order. PromotEdge is a construction equipment marketing agency for makers, dealers and rental companies.

We join brand work and trade shows with search and dealer follow-up in one programme, so more enquiries turn into site visits and demos, and then into orders.

Buyers are contractors, fleet owners, rental firms and EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) plant heads. They weigh uptime, fuel, finance, resale and part delivery. The operator often outweighs the brochure. Contractors also buy cement and steel; see digital marketing for building materials.

Two to four brands make the shortlist, mostly on what peers run and how strong the local dealer is. Demos, site visits and price follow. Cycles run from weeks to many months.

So we plan reputation, shows and enquiry handling as one programme across strategy, mainline advertising, digital and on-ground activation.

What happens after you ask. A strategist has a free 30-minute call with you. You get a one-page plan and a written quote within 2 working days. We take on a limited number of projects and tell you honestly if yours is a fit.

“We came back from the show with only a box of visiting cards.”

Plan the follow-up before the stall is built. Capture each visitor's model and district, and send them to the right dealer within days. Our events and exhibitions team runs it.

“Contractors still see us as the new, foreign brand.”

Brand strategy picks ground you can hold, like a region or fast service. SANY India's Naya Bharat Ka Nirmata positioned a global maker as a builder of new India.

“Sales drop every monsoon, so we switch off all marketing.”

Keep search ads and content running while site work slows. Use the quiet weeks for service camps and operator training, and get dealers ready for the restart.

StepWhat we doWhy
1. StrategyChoose segments and dealer districts. Set a media plan around the working season and shows.Buyers compare two to four brands. One clear reason wins.
2. Mainline advertisingOutdoor near expo venues and on dealer highways, plus trade press and PR (public relations) on infrastructure themes. The shortlist forms on reputation.
3. DigitalSEO (search engine optimisation), search ads, YouTube walk-rounds and WhatsApp. Leads go by pin code into a CRM (customer relationship management software).Contractors check models and resale online first.
4. BTL (below the line)Show stalls with lead capture and demo days. Dealer launches, operator meets and service camps.Machines are bought after they are seen working.

Stall design and build are delivered through PEXORA, a joint venture of PromotEdge and Prodigy.

Where AI can help Construction equipmenttoday.

Real business problems, from sales to back office, each with a plain AI fix. A person stays in charge of every step.

customer service

Customers increasingly care about machine uptime and quick service, because a stopped machine can stop a site. Each call needs the right engineer and parts.

The AI fix A support assistant takes WhatsApp breakdown reports, matches the machine number and tracker alerts, checks parts stock and proposes an engineer visit. The service manager confirms every dispatch.

sales

Demand for construction equipment is expected to grow only slowly, with domestic demand muted. When growth is slow, no enquiry should be lost.

The AI fix A lead assistant gathers enquiries from dealers, portals and calls into one list, replies on WhatsApp and reminds staff to chase quotes. The sales engineer visits and negotiates.

The construction equipment market in depth

Market size and trend

ICEMA, the makers' association, says the industry sold 1,36,995 machines in FY 2025-26, about 2% fewer than the 1,40,191 of FY 2024-25. Sales at home fell about 7%, while exports rose about 32%. Earthmoving machines were about 71% of units. ICEMA blamed slow work on site and late payments, and called the dip temporary.

Source: Press Trust of India, via Outlook Business, 8 May 2026; nbmcw.com, 8 May 2026. Both report ICEMA's figures. FY 2024-25: ICEMA press release, 28 May 2025

How buyers decide

Our view: a contractor first asks a friend who runs the same machine. Then he checks whether the dealer can reach his site in a day, how fast spares come, and what the machine will fetch on resale. A brand nobody has seen working drops off the list before price comes up.

What buyers expect

In their words, roughly: "Will it start every morning? Will the part come tomorrow? What will it fetch when I sell?" Fewer say aloud that they want an honest fuel number and a finance plan that survives late payments from their own clients. They also want a dealer who picks up the phone on a Sunday.

How buyers here sell

Dealer-led: makers sell and service through dealers. JCB India says it has over 60 dealers and 700 outlets. Building materials and automotive face the same dealer problem.

Fleet and project buyers: rental firms and EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) companies buy many machines. Their orders follow project awards, and ICEMA named fewer highway awards for FY 2025-26.

Marketplaces: owners compare machines and spares on listing sites. Desi Machines is one, and it is a PromotEdge group company. See our business models guide.

Where it is heading, and AI today and next

The Union Budget 2026-27 plans ₹12.2 lakh crore of public capital spending, about 9% more than the year before. It also proposes a scheme to make more construction equipment in India.

AI today can answer enquiries, book demos and chase slow dealers. Next, it may read machine data and prompt service calls. It cannot earn a contractor's trust on site: see our AI systems.

People, bodies and stories

Associations and bodies

ICEMA: the apex body of construction equipment makers. It publishes the yearly sales numbers used above.

CII (Confederation of Indian Industry): an industry body that organises EXCON, the construction equipment show held every two years in Bengaluru.

CIDC (Construction Industry Development Council): set up in 1996 with the then Planning Commission and Union ministries. It runs training and the Vishwakarma Awards.

A brand journey worth knowing: JCB India

JCB India says it began as a joint venture in 1979 and brought the backhoe loader to India. It is now fully owned by its British parent.

In May 2019 the hashtag #JCBKiKhudai trended, and Mumbai Police and many brands joined the joke. JCB India replied on 27 May 2019 that it was humbled, and tied the reply to its #ExpectMore line.

What you can do, and how we would deliver

What you can do, and what is not ours

Keep model sheets, emission stage papers and service records ready, and name one person at each dealer who answers enquiries the same day.

Loans come from your lender partners, and machine approvals from the testing agencies. We take the brand, search, shows, films, dealer kits and enquiry tracking.

How we would deliver, and why each step

We start with strategy: pick the machine classes and dealer districts to lead with, because contractors compare two to four brands. Then mainline advertising, because the shortlist forms on reputation.

Then digital, because buyers check models and resale online first. We end with shows and dealer meets, because machines are bought after they are seen working.

Saurav Agarwal, our Founder and CEO, takes the strategy call, the business review and the budget logic. Sanjiv Yadav, Data Research and WhatsApp Marketing, prepares the research, the B2B lists and the WhatsApp campaigns.

B2B lead generation

Buyers split in two. Owner-operators in smaller towns search on phones and answer Meta ads. Fleet owners, rental firms and EPC plant heads are easier to reach on LinkedIn. A qualified lead names a machine you sell, comes from a district a dealer covers, and has a buying window and a way to pay. Keep new, used, rental and parts enquiries on separate forms, and send each to its owner through your CRM. The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules, 2025 ask for a clear consent notice. WhatsApp allows messages only to people who opted in.

Source: PIB backgrounder on the DPDP Rules, 17 Nov 2025 (the Rules were notified on 14 Nov 2025). WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy

Dealer and exhibition marketing

The big shows come once every two years, so dealer meets and demo days do most of the selling in between. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organises EXCON in Bengaluru, next on 7 to 11 December 2027. bauma CONEXPO INDIA ran 15 to 18 September 2026 in Greater Noida. Book meetings about eight weeks ahead by WhatsApp. Build the stall around the main machine, and run dealer meets with a demo ground. Brand dealer outlets with signage. Send each lead to its dealer within two working days.

Source: EXCON website (excon.in) and bauma CONEXPO INDIA website (bcindia.com), checked 4 October 2026

Dealerships and rental

Our view: a contractor buys from a dealer for parts and service nearby. For one job, the contractor rents a machine to keep cash free. The Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers' Association (ICEMA) reported domestic sales of 1.13 lakh machines in FY 2025-26, down about 7%. One rule: the road transport ministry's safety rules for these machines began on 1 April 2021, with a second phase from 1 April 2024, says ICEMA. Ask the maker for proof before you list or rent a machine. A day rate card and a parts promise work well. The machines and loans are not ours.

The basics

For equipment brands

  • BIS marks, shown as heldA licence is compulsory for listed products (bis.gov.in). Show only what you hold.
  • CE mark, if you export to the EUCE marking is needed only for products under EU rules (europa.eu).
  • Model spec sheets with emission stageOne sheet per model. Name the stage as its approval says.
  • Spare-parts and service network listDealer, workshop and parts-store addresses and phones, kept current.
  • Finance partner sheetLender names and sample monthly instalments. Say offers need lender approval.
  • Demo videosA walk-round, an operator's view and a working-site film for each class.
  • Dealer kitApproved ads, social templates, logo rules and demo-day formats.

Claims, emission norms and finance offers

Equipment buyers check numbers.

Claims. The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) Code wants test data behind fuel and output claims, and operators shown in protective gear.

Emission norms. The Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 set emission stages for construction equipment vehicles. Name each model's stage as its approval says.

Green words. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued greenwashing guidelines in October 2024. Terms like eco-friendly need proof.

Finance offers. Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, say that monthly instalment (EMI) offers depend on the lender's approval. The CCPA's 2022 guidelines cover small print.

Made in India. The Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) Order, 2017 sets Class-I and Class-II suppliers by local content. Quote only what you can document.

General guidance, not legal advice. Have legal and compliance teams review every claim.

AI for the back office

finance

Contractor payment delays have squeezed cash across the equipment sector, and slower payout cycles have hurt demand for machines.

The AI fix A payments tool reads invoices, scores customers on past payment habits and sends reminders on set days. It flags risky new sales for the credit head, who decides.

Source: Outlook Business (PTI report on ICEMA data), May 2026

HR

Construction firms struggle to find enough qualified machine operators, especially for backhoe loaders, as the number of machines sold each year keeps growing.

The AI fix An assistant sends short lessons and quizzes in local languages on WhatsApp and turns idling and fuel data into coaching tips. Trainers teach hands-on and sign off skills.

Straight answers.

  • Meet contractors where they look: Google, YouTube and the big shows. Qualify each enquiry by machine, district and buying window, then send it to the nearest dealer the same day. Judge the work on site visits and quotes, not clicks.

  • Yes, when run as a campaign around the stall. EXCON and bauma CONEXPO India are not held every year, so each counts. Book meetings ahead, capture leads at the stall and follow up by dealer within the week. Our events and exhibitions team plans all three.

  • Usually not nationally, because the buyer base is narrow. Outdoor near expo venues and on dealer routes wastes less, as do trade press, regional print in dealer towns and targeted YouTube. TV can suit a broad range with a nation-building story.

  • Reach the people who specify and approve machines: plant and machinery heads, project managers or procurement teams. They respond to reference sites and to uptime and service records. Use LinkedIn, trade press or relationship programmes, not broad campaigns. Expect long cycles, because buying follows project awards.

  • We won't claim to be the best. Ask every agency, including us: Have you sold machines through dealers? Can you show results from past work? Who follows a lead to the dealer? Do the seniors you meet do the work? Ask for the names of the people who will run your account.

  • It depends on scope, so we don't publish a price list. The drivers are dealer districts, shows, regional ad budgets and films. Media space, the stall build and ad spend are billed at actuals. A written quote follows within 2 working days of the first call.

  • Yes. We build dealer kits with local ads and social templates, plus formats for demo days and launches. Enquiries are routed to each dealer by territory, and each dealer sees their own report. See our trade and channel marketing work.

  • We plan the stall around the campaign and the machines, with follow-up for every visitor. Our partner designs and builds it to that plan. You pay the build at actuals, with every rate shown first. Meetings are booked before the show, and each visitor gets a reply within days.
