A Kolkata agency, judged on business.

Kolkata rewards brands that understand its traders, makers, exporters and IT buyers. PromotEdge plans and runs strategy, advertising, digital marketing and on-ground work for growing Kolkata businesses.

Every rupee you spend can be traced to the enquiries and sales it brings in, month by month. Buyers find Kolkata firms on Google and Maps first. See our SEO services in Kolkata and local SEO in Kolkata.

/ 03 The Kolkata market

Three things that shape every Kolkata plan.

Before we suggest a channel, we look at who your buyers are, which media they trust, and when they spend.

1. The buyers: traders, makers, exporters and IT. Burrabazar is one of India's largest and oldest wholesale centres. Sub-markets such as Khangrapatti, Sonapatti and Lohapatti supply retailers across West Bengal and nearby states. Kolkata district's 2024-25 exports were led by gems and jewellery, iron and steel, and textiles.

Over 40,000 people work in Global Capability Centres (India offices of global firms) in Sector V and New Town (Bengal Chamber, 2026). A wholesaler trusts referrals and WhatsApp. An exporter needs a site a buyer abroad will believe. An IT firm needs decision makers on LinkedIn and Google.

2. The media: three languages, and people still read the paper. In the 2011 Census, Bengali was the mother tongue of 61.45% of Kolkata district, Hindi of 22.84% and Urdu of 13.04%. The Audit Bureau of Circulations lists Kolkata editions of Bengali, English and Hindi dailies. Seven private FM stations run in the city.

West Bengal had 68.74 internet subscribers per 100 people at the end of March 2026, below the all-India 76.59 (TRAI). A consumer brand on Instagram alone misses buyers. A business-to-business (B2B) firm often does better on search and LinkedIn than in a newspaper.

3. The seasons: Durga Puja first, then the rest of the year. One estimate put the 2025 Durga Puja economy at about ₹65,000 crore, with Kolkata about 70% of it (The Federal). A strategist quoted by Storyboard18 in 2025 said regional brands in Bengal and the East can put 25-30% of their yearly marketing budget into Puja.

Then come Kali Puja (usually October to November), the Book Fair (January and February) and Poila Boishakh in April, when traders open new account books. Exact dates change each year; see the marketing calendar. The monsoon normally runs 11 June to 12 October, so a Puja campaign is planned while it still rains.

Two Kolkata things to know before you plan.

WhatIn KolkataWhat it means for your plan
NewspapersBengali: Anandabazar Patrika, Bartaman, Sangbad Pratidin, Aajkaal, Ei Samay. English: The Telegraph, The Times of India, The Economic Times, The Hindu, The Statesman. Hindi: Sanmarg, Prabhat Khabar, Rajasthan Patrika.Pick the paper your buyer reads, in their language. No current public readership survey exists (the last Indian Readership Survey is from 2019). So we judge papers on rate cards and past response.
Outdoor rulesKMC (Kolkata Municipal Corporation) set rules for Puja hoardings in 2026: permission for roadside hoardings and banners, a window from 3 to 29 October, bamboo structures capped at 22 feet, and the permission ID shown on each board. Rules are set each year, so ask for the current order.Ask any vendor for the permission ID before you pay, and ask who pays the tax. We check the rules for every campaign.

Checked 3 October 2026. Venues and media are named as places in the city, not as our clients. Planning a stall, an event or shop signage? See how our BTL (on-ground) work is run. Trade shows and the festival calendar are in the fold below.

/ 04 Common challenges we solve

Common challenges we solve

A trader, an exporter and an IT firm all got our same message.

A typical Kolkata business challenge, and how we work on it. This is an example, not a named client's result.

The problem

Wholesalers, exporters and IT firms decide in different places. A single message in a single channel reaches only some. The rest never hear from you.

What we look at first

  • Who your recent buyers were, and how each found you.
  • Which channel each kind of buyer used.

The steps we take

  1. Start with your numbers: enquiries now, cost per lead (what one enquiry costs, on average) and sales.
  2. Fit the channel to the buyer. A wholesaler trusts referrals and WhatsApp. An exporter needs a site a buyer abroad will believe. An IT firm needs LinkedIn and Google.
  3. Try a channel small, in a season or an area, before spending big.
  4. Report monthly on enquiries and sales.

What changes when it works

A wholesaler, an exporter and an IT firm each get your message in the place where they decide.

What we need from you

Your recent enquiries and how each buyer found you.

We are busy on Instagram, but our buyers read the paper in Bengali or Hindi.

A typical Kolkata business challenge, and how we work on it. This is an example, not a named client's result.

The problem

Kolkata buyers read in Bengali, Hindi and English, and many still read the paper. A brand on Instagram alone misses them. A business firm often does better on search and LinkedIn.

What we look at first

  • Where your recent buyers first saw you.
  • Which language they wrote to you in.

The steps we take

  1. Pick the paper your buyer reads, in their language.
  2. Judge papers on rate cards and past response, as no current public readership survey exists.
  3. Write in Bengali, Hindi and English, and other languages through our language partners.
  4. Use search and LinkedIn for business buyers.
  5. Report enquiries by channel every month. Likes are only a footnote.

What changes when it works

A buyer gets your message in the language and the place they already use.

What we need from you

Your recent paper and ad spends, and where your enquiries came from.

Puja is near and the good hoarding sites are gone.

A typical Kolkata business challenge, and how we work on it. This is an example, not a named client's result.

The problem

Hoardings, radio and sponsorships book early and cost more in Puja season. A late plan pays more for less.

What we look at first

  • What you booked last Puja, and what it cost.
  • What your enquiries did afterwards.

The steps we take

  1. Mark the Puja calendar first, with booking deadlines on the plan.
  2. Keep a small steady base all year, then put weight behind the weeks buyers are ready.
  3. Ask every vendor for the permission ID before you pay.
  4. Plan for Kali Puja, the Book Fair and Poila Boishakh too.
  5. Report monthly on enquiries and sales.

What changes when it works

A brand gets its Puja media booked early, with a steady plan around it for the rest of the year.

What we need from you

Last Puja's plan and costs. Bring them to our Kolkata office in Sector V, or we come to you.

/ 05 Kolkata · step by step

How we work with Kolkata firms

  1. 01

A strategist calls you back within one working day.

Then we hold a 30-minute call on your enquiries and on which season matters most: Puja, Poila Boishakh or the Book Fair.

  2. 02

You get a free 1-page growth plan and a written quote within 2 working days of the call.

  3. 03

The Sector V team runs the work and sends a monthly report.

  4. 04

Contracts start from 3 months, with 30 days' notice to stop.

Our beliefWe use AI to save your team's time. A person still makes the decision.

/ 06 Cost

What marketing in Kolkata costs.

Every Kolkata plan is quoted after a first conversation, at the same rates as the rest of India. Media is billed apart from our fee, and you see every media rate before you approve it. We quote within 2 working days.

What affects the cost

  • How many channels: one service, or digital with print, radio, outdoor and on-ground work
  • How much content each month: posts, reels, articles, creatives and films
  • Ad spend on Google, Meta and LinkedIn, separate from our fee
  • Websites and one-off projects: pages, ecommerce, integrations
  • Season: Puja-month hoardings, radio and sponsorships cost more and go early
  • On-ground scale: promotion days, venues, stall size and crew

How we price it

  1. We talk through your goal and real numbers, in Sector V or at your shop, office or factory
  2. We list what you run today across search, social, print, hoardings and Puja
  3. A written list of the work by channel, with the Puja calendar marked
  4. Each fee on its own line, with media and printing at actuals, before you approve

What you get in the quote

  • Our fee for each service, with GST shown separately
  • Media and production at the rate quoted to us
  • The monthly report, and who on the Kolkata team works on your account

Whoever you hire, ask whether a quote includes GST and media.

Deeper reading if you want the research behind the plan.

How we deliver it, and why

  1. Start with your numbers. A plan built on enquiries and cost per lead can be checked; a plan built on opinions can't. A one-page picture of today.
  2. Fit the channel to the buyer. Wholesalers, exporters and IT firms decide in different places. A channel list with reasons.
  3. Try one channel small, in one season or area. It costs little to learn what works before spending big. A test with a date and a target.
  4. Mark the Puja calendar first. Hoardings, radio and sponsorships book early and cost more. Booking deadlines on the plan.
  5. Report monthly on enquiries and sales. What can't be measured can't be achieved. Likes only as a footnote.

Trade shows

Coming up in Kolkata: Garknit-X Kolkata and East India Print & Pack (both listed for 27-29 November 2026), India Energy Week (28-31 January 2027, Biswa Bangla Convention Centre) and the International Kolkata Book Fair (22 January to 3 February 2027). The Bengal Global Business Summit was last held on 5-6 February 2025, and no later date is announced. A stall works when invitations, stall and follow-up ads are planned together, well before the show.

Festival calendar

Saraswati Puja (January to February), the International Kolkata Book Fair (22 January to 3 February 2027), Poila Boishakh (mid-April), then Mahalaya and Durga Puja, usually September to October. Kali Puja is usually in October to November. Exact dates change each year; see the marketing calendar. The Park Street Christmas festival follows in late December. Each festival needs its own message.

Local economy: industries

West Bengal is India's second largest tea-producing state: 347.59 million kg in FY25 (April-December), 25.15% of the national total. The Salt Lake Electronics Complex in Sector V was created in 1989 and is managed by WEBEL. It is described as India's first fully integrated electronics complex.

Local economy: companies

On their own sites: Coal India lists its headquarters at Coal Bhawan, New Town, Rajarhat. Emami (BoroPlus, Navratna, Zandu) lists Emami Tower, EM Bypass. Exide Industries lists Exide House, Chowringhee Road. Bandhan Bank's head office is at Adventz Infinity@5, Sector V.

Chambers and bodies

The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry says it has been "aiding business since 1833". The Bharat Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit, calls itself one of the oldest and largest in the country (its own claim). The Indian Chamber of Commerce calls itself the "National Chamber for Indian Industry".

Choosing an agency: red flags

A promise of "page one on Google" or guaranteed leads. Reports of likes with no cost per lead. Your ad account, website or domain in the agency's name. A senior who pitches and is never seen again. A very low fee tied to a long lock-in.

AI in digital marketing: today and next

Today: Google and Meta

Google describes Performance Max as a goal-based campaign that reaches YouTube, Display, Search, Discover, Gmail and Maps from one campaign. It uses the goals, assets and audience signals you give it. Meta describes Advantage+ as AI that applies to audience, placement and budget on Facebook and Instagram.

How to choose a digital marketing agency in Kolkata

You will find lists of the top 10 digital marketing companies in Kolkata. We do not rank agencies on this page, and a list can't see your business. So ask any agency these five things before you sign. 1. Who will do my work, and can I meet that person before I start? 2. How do you count a lead: every enquiry, or only buyers who fit my business? Ask for the cost of one qualified lead. 3. How long is the contract, and how do I leave? Ask for the notice period in writing. 4. Who owns the ad accounts, the website and the logins? They should be yours. 5. How often will I get a report, and can I see a sample first? Then compare the answers, not the promises. We give ours in the open: a free 1-page growth plan, contracts from 3 months with 30 days' notice, and a monthly report.

/ 07 Digital marketing agency in Kolkata

We are a Kolkata marketing and digital marketing company, not a branch of a Mumbai or Delhi agency. Our in-house team of 65+ people has worked from Suite 508, Ambuja Neotia Eco Centre, Sector V, since 2015. Visit us, or we come to you.

Here is what we usually see: people ask for one thing, say SEO (search engine optimisation), Google Ads or a Puja campaign. We start with your numbers: enquiries now, cost per lead (what one enquiry costs you, on average) and how many become sales. Then we say where the money should go, even if that is a smaller job.

Kolkata buyers read the paper, hear FM in traffic, walk through Puja pandals and search on their phones, often in one week. One team plans strategy, advertising, digital marketing and BTL (below the line: events, stalls, shop branding). So your Google ad, Bypass hoarding and Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan stall say one thing. Larger and listed firms also ask us for annual report design.

/ 08 Our Kolkata office

Choosing an agency in Kolkata? Meet the team first.

Our office and our team are in Kolkata: Suite 508, 5th Floor, Ambuja Neotia Eco Centre, Block EM, Plot 4, Sector V, Salt Lake, Kolkata 700091. Come and see who would work on your business.

Meetings. Visit us in Sector V, or we come to your office or factory. The seniors you meet first are the people who do your work. Bring your real numbers: what you spend, how many enquiries come in, how many become orders.

Work is done here. Your SEO, Google and Meta ads, website and social media are planned and reported by our in-house team in this office. The ad accounts stay in your company's name. For BTL work we run the plan, permissions and crew briefings from Sector V. Consultants and partner agencies join where a job needs them.

Outside Kolkata, our servicing team is based in cities across India. We work hybrid and remotely, visit you regularly, and place our team at your site when a job needs it.

Do you need an agency at all? Not always. An in-house team suits daily work. A freelancer suits one clear job (keep your domain and ad accounts in your name). An agency suits several skills working together. Often the answer is a mix, and we will say so.

Common questions.

  • It depends on the channels, the monthly content and whether ad spend is included. One service costs far less than an integrated plan with print, radio and on-ground work. Ask every agency whether its quote includes GST and ad spend.

    See how we price

  • Yes: Suite 508, 5th Floor, Ambuja Neotia Eco Centre, Block EM, Plot 4, Sector V, Salt Lake, Kolkata 700091. The team that runs your work sits here. Visit us in Sector V, or we'll come to BBD Bagh, Burrabazar, Howrah, Park Street or New Town.

  • No agency can honestly claim that title, and you should doubt one that does. Judge any agency, us included, by three tests: does its report count enquiries and sales, do you meet the people who will do the work, and will you own your accounts and data if you leave. Ask for a recent report from a similar client. Our clients and case studies show the work, so you can check it.

  • No. Contracts start from 3 months, so the plan has time to show a pattern. After that you can stop with 30 days' notice. Your ad accounts, domain and website stay in your company's name. Media is billed apart from our fee, and you approve every media rate first.

  • Yes, in Bengali, Hindi and English, and through our language partners in Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and more. We choose by audience: a Burrabazar trade offer and a Sector V campaign rarely need the same language. Tell us who you want to reach and we suggest the mix.

  • Each month you get a short report with enquiries, cost per lead (what one enquiry costs) and the sales you share with us. It says what worked, what did not and where we would move the money next. We go through it with you on a review call.

  • Yes. You get one named account contact, plus the specialists your plan needs for search, ads, design and content. They come from our in-house team of 65+ people, who work from our Sector V office. Before work starts we tell you who is who, and you can meet them there.

  • Yes. Strategy, advertising, digital and BTL are four pillars under one roof. Events, outdoor, signage, retail branding and LED displays are delivered within the PromotEdge group. You get one plan, one report and one team to call. A single service is fine too, and we will say if you need only one.

  • First signs, such as calls and enquiries from ads, can show in weeks. Search and content work takes 3 to 6 months to show its full picture. We cannot promise results. Your monthly report shows enquiries and cost per enquiry, so you judge us on numbers. Contracts start from 3 months, with 30 days' notice.

  • Our Kolkata office is in Sector V, Salt Lake. We work with firms across Kolkata, on video calls or at your site. You are also welcome to come to Sector V with your numbers. A strategist calls you back within one working day of your request.
