Films made in Kolkata, judged on what they do.

A film is worth making only when it has one clear job: more enquiries, a stronger dealer pitch or a buyer's trust. PromotEdge plans, writes and produces ad films, TV commercials and corporate films for Kolkata businesses, each built around where it will play.

Most people call us with a date already fixed: a launch, a trade show, a Puja campaign or an AGM. Before we talk about cameras, we ask where the film will play and what the viewer should do next. A film has to impress your customers, not you.

Looking for an ad film maker or a TVC agency in Kolkata? That is us too: idea, script, casting, shoot, edit and every version. Our video production page explains the method we use across India. This page covers what changes in this city.

/ 03 Video in Kolkata

What changes when you film for Kolkata.

A Kolkata film works in three languages and fits a calendar shaped by rain and Puja.

Language changes the film, not just the subtitles. Kolkata district's mother tongues in the 2011 Census were Bengali (61.45%), Hindi (22.84%) and Urdu (13.04%). So a consumer film usually needs a Bengali master plus a Hindi or English cut.

Many Kolkata buyers make things. A West Bengal government page says about 95% of the state's roughly 500 foundry units are in Howrah district. Gems and jewellery made up 58.8% of Kolkata district's exports in 2024-25, and iron and steel 17.5%. A plant film shows a buyer abroad the machines and checks before anyone books a flight.

Most viewing happens on a phone. The Kolkata telecom service area had 21.01 million internet subscribers at the end of March 2026 (TRAI). So we plan vertical cuts, captions for viewers on mute in a bus or Metro coach, and an opening that works without sound.

Rain and Puja set the shoot calendar. IMD's normal monsoon for Kolkata runs from 11 June to 12 October, and Storyboard18 called Durga Puja the second-biggest advertising season of 2025, after Diwali. So an outdoor Puja film is usually shot during the rains, with spare indoor days in the plan.

WhatIn KolkataWhat it means for your film

Exhibition datesAt Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan: East India Print and Pack (27-29 November 2026). India Energy Week: 28-31 January 2027 at BBCC.Lock a winter stall film before Puja.
Moving equipmentMedium and heavy goods vehicles carrying non-essential goods can't run in the city during set hours, except in the port area. The Calcutta High Court upheld the rule in February 2024.Sets and props that need a goods vehicle move at night.
Weather and festival datesWettest months at Alipore: July (387.8 mm) and August (369.9 mm). In 2026, Mahalaya is 10 October, Durga Puja 18-21 October, Kali Puja 8 November.Every outdoor day gets a backup date. Shoot a Puja film in July or August.
Permissions on public sitesA road, a station, a monument and a hotel lobby each have a different owner. We apply for what your shoot needs. This is general guidance, not legal advice.Never film on a road, in a station or at a monument without written permission.

/ 06 How we work

From briefto final cut.

  1. 01

    Brief and numbers

We meet at your office, your plant or ours in Sector V, and agree what the film must change.

  2. 02

    Script and language

We write in the language your viewer thinks in. You approve script and shot list before the shoot.

  3. 03

    Recce

We check light, noise, power and safety. On a factory floor, we walk the route with your safety officer.

  4. 04

    Shoot

One planned day can give you the main film, short ads and stills. Our in-house team of 65+ people shoots, with consultants and partner agencies where a job needs them.

  5. 05

    Edit, versions and results

Rough cut, fine cut, then every screen size. We can't do magic alone: quick approvals from you keep the schedule.

More on this

How we deliver it, and why

How your business model changes the plan

A shop or retail brand wants short Bengali spots and social cuts. A dealer-led B2B (business-to-business) firm wants a plant film and product demos. An exporter wants a plant film with units, checks and shipping. A services firm wants founder and client stories.

  1. Write the film's job in one line. A film with no job is judged on taste. A one-line brief you sign.
  2. Script in the viewer's language. Bengali, Hindi and English reach different people. A script per language.
  3. Plan rain days. The monsoon decides when outdoor days are safe. A backup date for every outdoor day.
  4. Cut for every screen. Most viewing is on a phone. Wide, vertical and silent versions.

AI in video production: today and next

Today: Google

Google's Gemini page describes short video clips with sound from a prompt, 10 seconds long, with an invisible SynthID watermark. It needs a paid Google AI plan, and Google says features vary by plan and country.

Source: Google Gemini, video generation, read 10 October 2026

Limits

A generated clip cannot show your real plant, your people or your safety checks. Buyers abroad still want the real floor.

Next

Our view: AI will speed up fillers, backgrounds and rough cuts. Real faces and real machines stay on camera. Want us to plan where it helps? Ask us.

/ 07 Cost

What a film in Kolkata costs.

We do not publish a price list for films. Each one is quoted after a first talk and a written scope, the same way as for clients elsewhere in India. We send the quote within 2 working days.

What affects the cost

  • Shoot days and locations
  • Crew size, cameras and lights
  • Cast, voice artists and languages
  • Sets and props, or a studio
  • Post-production: edit, colour, sound, music licences, 3D or VFX

How we quote

  1. We hear who the film is for, where it will play and by when you need it
  2. We visit the plant or venue if one is involved
  3. You get a written scope, with each cost on its own line, before we book anything

What you get in the quote

  • Script and storyboard, with the languages agreed
  • Shoot days, crew, cameras and lights
  • Edit, colour, sound and music, with licences stated
  • Number of versions and screen sizes

Media spend is always separate from the production cost.

/ 08 What happens next

What happensafter you ask.

For projects we think we can help, this is how it goes.

  1. 01

    A strategist calls you

In one working day: a 30-minute call with one of our strategists about your business and what is not working.

  2. 02

    You get a 1-page plan

A short, honest plan: what to fix first and what we would do. It is free.

  3. 03

A quote, if you want one

If you want to go ahead, we send a quote within 2 working days.

We confirm the timeline in the quote. Contracts start at 3 months, with 30 days' notice to stop.

Brands and people are named only as public examples. They are not PromotEdge clients or endorsers unless stated.

Straight answers.

  • Yes. Our office is in Kolkata, at Suite 508, Ambuja Neotia Eco Centre, Sector V, Salt Lake. Scripts, planning and client reviews happen here, and you are welcome to visit. The team that plans your film works in the same building.

  • Both. Some people search for an ad film maker in Kolkata, others for a TVC agency, and the work comes to the same team. TV airtime and digital media are bought separately from the production fee, and we can plan those too.

  • Usually, yes. We visit first, follow your safety rules and brief each department. We keep the crew on the floor small, shoot around your shifts, and plan crew safety and low disruption before the shoot day. Plant films suit exporters, foundries and garment makers.

  • Yes. Our language partners write the scripts and voice-overs, and our team directs the shoot. Most Kolkata consumer films need a Bengali version, and many need Hindi too. A good Bengali film is written in Bengali, not translated at the end.

  • Count back from the day your media goes live. In 2026, state offices close from 15 to 26 October. We'd fix the idea by June or July, shoot in July or August with spare rain days, and finish all cuts in September.

  • It depends on shoot days, crew, cast, locations and post-production. A short event highlight film costs far less than a multi-day ad film with cast and sets. We don't publish a price list. We quote after a first talk, against a written scope, with studio, venue and talent at actuals.
