/ 01 Branding agency in Kolkata

A brand peopleremember and trust.

A good brand helps buyers recognise you faster, trust you sooner and pick you over the shop next door. PromotEdge creates names, logos and full brand identities for Kolkata and Bengal businesses, from Burrabazar trading houses to Sector V tech firms.

A branding agency works out who you sell to and what you want to be known for, then turns that into a name, a look and a way of speaking that buyers recognise.

We look at your business first and the design second. If your firm's name has been trusted in Burrabazar for decades, the job is careful: keep the goodwill, lose the dated look.

If you are new, say a kidswear label out of Metiabruz, you need to look credible from day one. Our job is to impress your customers, not you, so we test every identity where it will live: a shop fascia, a Bengali press ad, a WhatsApp profile picture.

/ 03 Branding in Kolkata

Two scripts, old names, new markets.

Four things about this city change how we design a brand here.

Your logo may need two scripts. In Census 2011, Bengali was the mother tongue of 86.22% of people in West Bengal. In Kolkata district: 61.45% Bengali, 22.84% Hindi and 13.04% Urdu. Bengali letters hang from a top line, the matra, so we design both versions together.

Trade keeps its own calendar. On Poila Boishakh, 15 April in 2026, traders opened new account books in the Haal Khata tradition. A PTI report in 2022 said the run-up brings shopkeepers a third of yearly sales. For a trading firm, that is a natural day to unveil a new mark.

Kolkata makes things the world buys. In 2024-25, gems and jewellery were 58.8% of Kolkata district's exports, ahead of iron and steel (17.5%), textiles (11.7%) and leather (6.2%). Metiabruz alone has about 15,000 garment units. A maker moving from job work to its own label is judged on name, mark and pack first.

Your shopfront competes on the high street. High streets took 94% of the city's retail leasing in Q3 2026, led by Theatre Road, Camac Street and Gariahat (Cushman & Wakefield). A local jeweller or café is judged against those fronts, so the identity has to hold up on a lit fascia at night.

/ 06 How a Kolkata branding project runs

From first chatto new signboard.

  1. 01

    Listen (week 1)

At our Sector V office or your shop. Who buys, and why they choose you.

  2. 02

Strategy on one page (weeks 1-2)

Who the brand is for, what it stands for and how it should sound, agreed before design starts.

  3. 03

Two or three routes (weeks 2-4)

Distinct directions, each shown on real uses: a shop board, a pack, a profile picture.

  4. 04

    Refine and test (weeks 4-5)

One route, refined with your feedback and shown to a few real customers.

  5. 05

    Guidelines and files (week 6)

A clear guide and every file your printer, sign maker and web team will ask for.

  6. 06

    Rollout

Signs, packs, stationery and digital changed in a planned order, so old and new don't clash for months.

Our beliefWe know digital inside out, and we think like an Indian business.

How we deliver it, and why

How your business model changes the plan

A wholesale house in Burrabazar needs a mark that works on invoices and dealer boards. An exporter needs packs and a catalogue a foreign buyer trusts. A franchise needs rules every outlet can follow. A D2C (direct-to-consumer) brand needs a look that works in a phone feed.

  1. Agree who the brand is for before any drawing. Design gets easier once the buyer and the promise are clear. A one-page strategy.
  2. Draw Bengali and English together. A Bengali name typed later in a default font looks like an afterthought. Both versions on every route.
  3. Show routes on real uses. A logo that works on a screen can fail on a lit fascia. A shop board, a pack and a profile picture, side by side.
  4. Test with a few real customers. Your team has seen the logo too often to judge it. Short feedback notes.
  5. Roll out in a planned order. Old and new signs side by side confuse buyers. A rollout list for signs, packs and screens.

AI in branding: today and next

Today: names and drafts

Google's help page lists Bengali, Hindi and Urdu among the languages of the Gemini web app, the three languages in Kolkata district's Census figures. That helps when brainstorming names and reading a Bengali line quickly. A native reader checks the meaning, and a trademark search still comes first.

Our view: AI will speed up first sketches. The choice of what your brand stands for stays with people who know your buyers. Want us to look at yours? Ask us.

/ 07 Cost

What branding in Kolkata costs.

We do not publish a price list for branding. The smallest first step is a free 30-minute call with a strategist and a one-page plan, for projects we think we can help. The quote comes within 2 working days.

What affects the cost

  • A logo alone, or a full identity with guidelines
  • Language versions of the name
  • Naming and a trademark search before design
  • Design routes and rounds of changes
  • Packaging and rollout items

How we quote

  1. Bring your old logo, a few packs and photos of your shop
  2. You receive a written scope: logo only, or a full identity
  3. Design and rollout go on separate lines, and you approve the quote before the first sketch

What you get in the quote

  • Source files and the transfer of rights, stated in the contract
  • A guideline document, if a full identity is chosen

A very cheap logo is often a template with your name typed in. Ask who drew it and whether you own the rights.

/ 08 What happens next

What happensafter you ask.

For projects we think we can help, this is how it goes.

  1. 01

    A strategist calls you

In one working day: a 30-minute call with one of our strategists about your business and what is not working.

  2. 02

    You get a 1-page plan

A short, honest plan: what to fix first and what we would do. It is free.

  3. 03

A quote, if you want one

If you want to go ahead, we send a quote within 2 working days.

We confirm the timeline in the quote. Contracts start at 3 months, with 30 days' notice to stop.

Brands and people are named only as public examples. They are not PromotEdge clients or endorsers unless stated.

Straight answers.

  • It depends on whether you need a logo or a full identity, how many language versions, and whether naming and trademark checks are included. We do not publish a price list. We quote after a first talk, against a written scope. Compare quotes on what you get.

  • Yes. The designers who work on your brand sit in our office in Sector V (Suite 508, Ambuja Neotia Eco Centre). Bring your old logo, a few packs and photos of your shop to the first meeting. We also come to your shop, office or factory, and calls on video work too.

  • Yes. Bengali and Hindi lettering and copy come through our language partners, and our team checks the result. If you sell mainly in Bengal, the Bengali version should be drawn alongside the English one, so both look like the same brand.

  • A logo usually takes about three to four weeks from the first meeting, and a full identity with guidelines about six to eight. A rollout across shops and packs depends on how many there are. We confirm the timeline in the quote.

  • Both work. Poila Boishakh (15 April in 2026) is when many traders open new books, so a new mark on the new ledger and shop board feels natural. Before Puja everyone is out buying, so a fresh look gets noticed. Work back from the date: about two months for design.

  • You should. Ask any designer, including us, to put the transfer of rights and the source files in the contract, and run a trademark search before you print anything. Rights and files are part of what a good branding quote lists line by line.

  • Yes. Fascias, glow signs and in-store branding are delivered within the PromotEdge group. Packaging goes to print from our files, so the colours and letters on the street match what we designed on screen. Each piece is quoted on its own line.
