Many names under one roof.Do they help each other?

A group with many businesses can look like five unrelated companies to the buyer. PromotEdge decides how your group name, business lines and sub-brands fit together, so each launch borrows trust from the rest.

Three models are common. A branded house puts one name on everything. A house of brands gives each product its own name. Endorsed brands keep their names with a "from the group" line. Most Indian groups end up with a mix. Desi Machines, a PromotEdge group company we built from the name up, sells under its own name.

Choose this over full brand strategy when your position is settled and the question is structure.

/ 03 What usually gets in the way

What usually gets in the way,and the way through.

“We have five business lines, and they look like five different companies.”

Buyers of one never learn the others exist. A shared endorsement line often fixes much of this without new logos.

“Every new product gets a new name, and none of them sticks.”

Each name needs its own budget. Naming rules decide which launches earn a name and which sit under the main brand.

“We're launching a premium range. Should it carry our name?”

A name known for value may see a premium range judged on price. An endorsed brand often works better. We test both with a few buyers first.

“We bought a company. Do we keep its name?”

Its buyers trust the old name, not yours yet. We plan the change in steps so you keep them.

“Dealers mix up our brands, and enquiries reach the wrong team.”

That is architecture showing up in sales, common for developers with a name per project, healthcare groups and manufacturers with several divisions. The table shows how we fix it.

/ 04 How we work

Listen first.Test small. Then change the signboards.

One business with two sub-brands moves much faster than a group with ten. We confirm the timeline in the quote.

  1. 01

    Listen inside

Interviews with promoters, business heads and sales, and sales by business, brand and region.

  2. 02

    Map what you have

The full brand inventory side by side, and which names buyers search for.

  3. 03

    Hear buyers and dealers

Short calls on which names they trust and which confuse them.

  4. 04

    Choose

A workshop on two or three structures. You decide. If a change will hurt sales, we say so to your face.

  5. 05

    Write the rules

Structure, naming and lock-up rules in one short document, with worked examples.

  6. 06

    Test small, then roll out

We try the change with a few dealers or one pack, then roll out in phases. New market too? Add a go-to-market plan.

Tell us what’s not working. We’ll send you an honest one-page growth plan, free.

How we deliver it, and why

How your business model changes the plan

A dealer-led B2B (business-to-business) group usually leans on one trusted group name. A D2C (direct-to-consumer) group with very different buyers or prices often needs separate names. A franchise needs one name on every outlet.

  1. Interview your sales team before drawing any chart. They know which names buyers actually say. A list of names that matter.
  2. Weigh two or three structures with their costs. Every structure shares trust and media money in a different way. Trade-offs on one page each.
  3. Write rules, not a one-time chart. The next launch decision should not need a meeting. A one-page naming guide.
  4. Change in phases. Reprinting everything at once wastes money and confuses dealers. A rollout list.

AI in brand architecture: today and next

Today: sorting your names

Google says AI in Google Sheets can categorise, summarise or generate hundreds of rows of text quickly, so a long brand inventory can be grouped fast. Google also warns that Gemini can present inaccurate information as fact, so we check every row by hand.

Today: checking a new name

An AI tool cannot tell you if a name is free to use. The Trade Marks Registry's public search is the place to check, and it opens at a login that asks for a one-time password.

Next

Our view: AI will make the first sort and the first naming ideas cheaper. Choosing a structure still needs your sales team, your buyers and a decision.

Here is how you can start, even if you never call us: write every name you use, who buys it and at what price. Names your sales team never says on the phone are the first to merge. Talk to us

/ 05 Cost

What affects the cost of brand architecture.

We quote against a written scope. Travel for workshops in your city is charged at actuals and shown before you approve.

What affects the cost

  • How many businesses, sub-brands and product ranges are in scope
  • How many leadership, sales, buyer and dealer interviews it needs
  • Whether an acquired brand or a new premium range is part of the question
  • Whether naming or design work is included
  • How many places the change must reach: website, packs, dealer boards, offices

How we quote

  1. We talk about what is changing in the group and which names cause trouble
  2. We look at your brands, websites and sales material before we write anything
  3. A written scope and a quote within 2 working days, each part on its own line

What you get in the quote

  • The businesses, sub-brands and markets in scope
  • How many interviews, and with whom
  • The documents and naming rules you receive

Compare quotes on whether each includes buyer and dealer calls and a change plan, or only a chart of logos. Not sure the brand is the problem? A marketing audit checks first.

/ 06 What happens next

What happensafter you ask.

For projects we think we can help, this is how it goes.

  1. 01

    A strategist calls you

In one working day: a 30-minute call with one of our strategists about your business and what is not working.

  2. 02

    You get a 1-page plan

A short, honest plan: what to fix first and what we would do. It is free.

  3. 03

A quote, if you want one

If you want to go ahead, we send a quote within 2 working days.

We confirm the timeline in the quote. Contracts start at 3 months, with 30 days' notice to stop.

No pressure. No sales pitch.

Tell us which names are confusing buyers. We'll show you the structure.

Or leave your number. A strategist calls you in one working day.

We use these details only to call you back. Privacy notice.

Straight answers.

  • It is the family tree of your brands: how the group name, each business and sub-brand relate, and which name a buyer sees first. A good one tells your team, without a meeting, what a new launch should be called.

  • A branded house shares one name, so trust and media money are shared. A house of brands gives each product its own name, at a higher cost, because every name must earn trust alone. Endorsed brands keep their names with a "from the group" line, which lends some trust.

  • It works out which structure fits your group, then writes the rules for names, logos and endorsement lines, so future launches need no debate. A good one should talk to your sales team, buyers and dealers before drawing any chart, and explain every choice in plain words.

  • By numbers we agree before we start. Do enquiries reach the right team? Do more people search for your group name? How fast does a new launch get its first orders? Your sales team and dealers should also tell you the names are less confusing.

  • Only if the main name helps it sell. If buyers already trust you for that kind of product, use it. For a different buyer or a much higher price, an endorsed or separate name usually works better. We test both with a few buyers before you decide.

  • It means keeping the family in order as you grow. One person owns the rules and approves every new name, so the structure does not drift. We suggest a review once a year, or when you buy a company or enter a new category.

  • Yes. Our servicing team is based in cities across India, so a group in any city can work with us. We work hybrid and remotely, stay in touch daily and meet you in your city at least once every three months.

  • A senior strategist leads the project from the first interview to the final workshop, so you deal with one person. Behind them is our in-house team of 65+ people, with industry consultants and partner agencies where a job needs them.
