Earn the story.Don't buy the space.

Reporters in Chennai print real news, not announcements. PromotEdge digs out the real news in your firm for makers, startups and local brands.

We take it to the right Tamil and English desks, so that buyers read about you in a paper they already trust.

PR stands for public relations: getting news people to write or speak about you. An ad is space you pay for. A story is space a reporter gives you, so nobody can promise it. We are professionals, so we would rather tell you your news is thin than send it out anyway.

Notes are written by our servicing team, which is based in cities across India, and we travel in for press meets. Our public relations page explains PR across India. See how it differs in Delhi NCR or Mumbai.

/ 03 Why Chennai PR is different

A city of head offices, and a crowded inbox.

Four public facts shape how we plan a Chennai story. Checked on 4 October 2026.

Many papers are run from here, not just sold here. The Hindu began in Madras in 1878. The New Indian Express and Dinamalar have their headquarters in Chennai. A strong Chennai story can travel to their other editions too.

Tamil comes first, but business talks in English too. About 78% of people in the old city named Tamil as their mother tongue in Census 2011, as reported. A shop opening needs a Tamil story. A plant deal may need both versions.

The government is the biggest sender of news. The state's Information and Public Relations Department (DIPR) emails news to over 325 state dailies and portals. Your note lands in the same inbox, so it must be short, clear and new.

The factory belt is a trade-press story. Kancheepuram district, next to Chennai, sold $26.4 billion of goods abroad in FY26. For auto suppliers, a trade journal often matters more than a city paper.

/ 04 Chennai news media and moments

What we plan around,with sources.

Chennai itemWhat the record showsWhat it means for your story
Tamil dailiesDaily Thanthi (1942) and Dinamalar have Chennai editions on the ABC (Audit Bureau of Circulations, which checks paper sales) list. Maalai Malar is an evening paper. The widest reach in the main language. Each wants its own Tamil note.
English dailiesThe Hindu, Hindu Business Line and The Economic Times are on the ABC list. DT Next started in 2015.Business, tech and policy news usually starts here.
State press office (DIPR)Sends news to over 325 dailies and portals, and places state government ads at fixed rates.Avoid big state announcement days if your news is small.
Book Fair and seasonThe 50th Chennai Book Fair is planned for 7 to 19 January 2027. Ayudha Pooja is 19 October and Deepavali 8 November 2026.Hard news does better just before or after festive weeks.

Sources as cited, checked 4 October 2026. Outlets are named as facts about Chennai's media, not as our clients or contacts.

/ 05 How a Chennai PR plan runs

Five steps,no padding.

  1. 01

    Listen first

A long call with your leaders. We list what is new and what you can prove with papers or photos.

  2. 02

    Pick the desks

Tamil daily, English business page, a trade journal or a channel, chosen by where your buyers read.

  3. 03

    Write each version

A Tamil and an English note, a fact sheet and photos. A native speaker reads every Tamil line.

  4. 04

    Pitch and stay close

Short pitches to named reporters, then quick answers. A press meet only if needed.

  5. 05

    Report honestly

Every story with outlet, date and message, plus what did not run.

Our beliefWe'd rather show you results than a nice presentation.

Tell us what’s not working. We’ll send you an honest one-page growth plan, free.

More on this

How we deliver it, and why

How your business model changes the plan

A parts maker needs a trade journal and photos. A startup needs a number or a first. A local brand needs a Tamil story and a picture.

  1. Ask what has really changed. A note with no news sinks. A list of real angles.
  2. Write Tamil and English separately. A translation reads like one. Two notes, one per desk.
  3. Report the misses too. Good results should repeat. A report with what did not run.

Go deeper: Chennai's media, plants and tech

Plants and startups

Hyundai's plant is at SIPCOT Irungattukottai, and BMW has built cars at Mahindra World City since 2007. Tamil Nadu had over 14,830 government-recognised startups on 31 March 2026, as Inc42 reported, many along OMR, the IT corridor.

Radio, TV and venues

There are 6 private FM stations (ministry list, 30 March 2026). The Sun Group started Sun TV in 1993. The Chennai Trade Centre has three conference halls of 350 seats each, enough for most press meets.

AI in PR: today and next

Today: Google AI Overviews

Google's help page says AI Overviews show links to supporting web pages and that AI responses may include mistakes. Our view: a story in a trusted Tamil or English outlet gives an overview something to point to. Check what it says about you.

/ 06 Cost

What affects the cost of PR in Chennai.

We don't share a price list. After a first call we write the scope and send the quote within 2 working days. Venue hire and travel are passed on at actual cost.

What affects the cost

  • Languages. A Tamil and an English note are two pieces of writing, not one plus a translation.
  • Desks. City, business and trade desks each need their own angle.
  • TV practice. Sessions for a speaker who will face Tamil news cameras.
  • Story count. One launch, or a steady flow each month.
  • Sign-offs. Listed firms and plants often need head-office approval.

How we quote

  1. A talk through your news, who can speak for you and which buyers matter
  2. A written plan of stories, languages, desks and dates, with any line open to cut
  3. Hall hire, flights and photo costs listed at actuals

What you get in the quote

  • Each story idea, matched to the desks it suits
  • Tamil and English notes as agreed, plus a fact sheet and photos
  • A monthly sheet of stories that ran, pitches that did not, and next ideas

Comparing quotes? Ask which of an agency's sample stories were paid for. A paid story is an ad.

/ 07 What happens next

What happensafter you ask.

For projects we think we can help, this is how it goes.

  1. 01

    A strategist calls you

In one working day: a 30-minute call with one of our strategists about your business and what is not working.

  2. 02

    You get a 1-page plan

A short, honest plan: what to fix first and what we would do. It is free.

  3. 03

A quote, if you want one

If you want to go ahead, we send a quote within 2 working days.

We confirm the timeline in the quote. Contracts start at 3 months, with 30 days' notice to stop.

Have news to share in Chennai?

Tell us what changed. We'll tell you if it's news.

Or leave your number. A strategist calls you in one working day.

We use these details only to call you back. Privacy notice.

Straight answers.

  • We serve Chennai through a servicing team based in cities across India. Planning happens hybrid and remote, on video calls. We travel in for press meets, interviews and launches, and visit you in Chennai at least once every three months.

  • We can't promise it, and nobody honest can. Editors choose what runs. We name these outlets as part of Chennai's media, not as our contacts. What we promise is the work: a true angle, a clean note, a ready speaker and quick follow-up.

  • Usually both. Through our language partners we write Tamil, English, Hindi and more. Tamil reaches the most homes and Tamil news TV. English is where much business and export news starts. We write each version on its own, so neither reads like a translation.

  • Sometimes, if you hire many people or win a big export order. More often, a trade journal read by buyers and dealers is the better target. We plan both, and tell you honestly which one your news suits. Do tell us the buyers you want to reach.

  • Avoid festival days if your news is not festive. Ayudha Pooja falls on 19 October and Deepavali on 8 November 2026. For culture and book news, the Book Fair in January 2027 is a natural hook. Send us the news early so we can time it.

  • A strong piece of news can appear in a day or two. Becoming the name reporters call takes several months of steady work. We confirm the timeline in the quote. Ongoing PR work has a 3-month minimum, then 30 days' notice. A single launch is quoted as one job.

  • No one can fairly claim that, including us. Hand each agency your latest news and see what angle they find. Ask who on their side writes Tamil, and to see a past report, misses included. Then choose the plainest answers, not the loudest promise.
