/ 01 Glow sign boards

Found after dark,on every outlet.

After dark, a glow sign board is the only part of a shop that still sells. A glow sign board is a backlit box: a metal frame, a printed face and LEDs inside.

PromotEdge designs, makes and installs them for brands that sell through dealers and shops across India, with a photo of every board once it is up.

Who it's for. Brands with a dealer or retail network, from paint and tyres to pharmacies and clinics and industrial dealers. A brand moving up to premium often starts here, because a tired board makes a good product look cheap. Delivered through PEXORA, a joint venture of PromotEdge and Prodigy.

Fabrication and fitting sit inside the PromotEdge group, so one team answers from drawing to ladder. Raised letters, ACP fascias and moving displays have pages of their own. Planning a whole network? Start with signage and retail branding.

/ 03 Signs you need this

Your boardsneed attention if...

“Half our dealer boards are dark by evening.”

Usually a failed driver, a loose wire or a dealer saving power. A timer or light sensor turns the board on at dusk.

“Our red logo looks orange on half the boards.”

Colour is checked on backlit flex with the light on. One approved lit sample goes with every print batch.

“Every dealer's board is a different size and shade.”

One master design is adapted to each measured frontage and printed in batches, so colour matches town to town.

“The board glows in the middle and stays dark at the edges, or the frame rusted within two monsoons.”

LED modules are spaced to the box depth. Frames are treated steel or aluminium, finished against rust, with drain holes.

“We paid for 300 boards and have no idea how many went up.”

Every installation is photographed lit, with date, time and location, outlet by outlet.

“We changed our logo, and dealers will not pay for 300 new boards.”

Frames and LEDs outlast the printed face. Where the frame is sound, we change only the face, outlet by outlet, and photograph each old face coming down.

/ 04 Rollout

From outlet listto a lit board.

We can't do magic alone. An outlet list with addresses and a retailer contact saves the most time. This timeline is for one state; multi-state rollouts run in waves.

  1. 01

Week 1: outlet list and brief

Which outlets get which board, and the master artwork, grouped by route.

  2. 02

    Weeks 1–3: recce and measurement

Each frontage measured, power point checked, old board photographed, the shop owner's consent noted.

  3. 03

    Weeks 2–4: artwork and colour

Artwork adapted to every size, shop names and numbers checked, a lit sample approved before printing.

  4. 04

    Weeks 3–6: fabrication

Frames welded, finished and wired, faces printed and stretched, each board tested lit.

  5. 05

    Weeks 4–8: installation

Route-wise installation, old boards removed, safe wiring, a geo-tagged photo of every board switched on.

  6. 06

    After: audit and upkeep

Spot checks, a fault log with an outlet code and owner, and repairs or face replacement as agreed.

How we deliver it, and why

How your business model changes the plan

A dealer-led brand needs one master design in a few sizes, printed in batches. A franchise needs the same board in every outlet, so one approved sample guides all. A brand that sells through industrial dealers often needs bigger boards on trade roads, read from a vehicle.

  1. We measure every outlet before anything is printed. Frontages, power points and permissions differ, and a board made to the wrong size is a remake. A measured list, outlet by outlet.
  2. Our senior account manager, Rima Shaw, is your day-to-day contact. With many outlets, one person should hold the list and the dates. An outlet list with dates against each.
  3. We approve one lit sample for each print batch. Colour looks different with the light on, and a red logo can turn orange. A lit sample beside your colour guide.
  4. We space the LEDs to the box depth. Even spacing stops dark edges and bright spots, which are cheaper to fix in the workshop. A lit test before the board leaves.
  5. We install route by route and photograph each board lit. A photo with date and place answers the question of how many boards went up. A photo sheet by outlet code.
  6. We keep a fault log with an owner for each outlet. A dark board loses sales every night, and a log gets it fixed faster than memory does. Repairs on a list.

Go deeper: the Indian signage trade

A trade show for the signage world

Sign India 2024, organised by Business Live of Chennai, ran at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, on 9 to 11 August 2024. PrintWeek reported an estimated 20,000 visitors and 200 exhibitors, and demand for eco-solvent, UV and water-based inks. For a flex face, it is fair to ask which ink your maker uses.

AI in sign boards: today and next

Today: sorting outlet photos

Google's Cloud Vision documentation says logo detection "detects popular product logos within an image". A tool like that can sort installation photos by whether a logo is in the frame. It is built for popular logos, so a small brand's mark may be missed, and it cannot tell if red looks orange when lit. A person checks each photo.

Our view: photo sorting will get quicker and cheaper. Colour and light will still be judged by eye, outlet by outlet. Want us to check your boards? Ask us.

/ 05 Cost

What a glow sign boardcosts.

Glow sign boards are usually priced on face area, and we do not publish a price list. Installation, removal of the old board and travel often matter more in a rollout than people expect. Your quote comes within 2 working days.

What affects the cost

  • Size in square feet, and the number of boards
  • Face: backlit flex costs less than vinyl on acrylic
  • Frame material and finish
  • LED modules and driver
  • Height and access: a bracket or a roof structure with scaffolding
  • How spread out the outlets are

How we quote

  1. You send the outlet list with a photo of each front, the sizes and the number of boards.
  2. We check one or two sites, or the photos, for height, access and what must come down.
  3. You get a quote per board or per size band, with installation and travel on their own lines, shown before you approve.

What you get in the quote

  • Board size, face type and frame finish, outlet by outlet
  • LED modules and driver, with the make named
  • Installation, scaffolding, and removal of old boards
  • A photo record of every board

Municipal signage fees, where they apply, are paid at actuals.

Straight answers.

  • A glow sign board (GSB) is a backlit shop sign: a metal frame holding a printed translucent face, with LED lights inside. It stays lit after dark, so buyers can find the outlet. Dealer networks use it because one design can be printed for every shopfront.

  • The frame is welded from treated mild steel or aluminium and finished against rust. The face is printed on flex or vinyl and stretched over the box. LED modules and a driver go inside, and the board is tested lit. After installation, we photograph it switched on.

  • Most are priced per square foot. Backlit flex on a mild steel frame is the economical choice. Vinyl on acrylic with an aluminium frame costs more and looks sharper. Installation and access add to it, especially above the ground floor. We quote against a written scope.

  • The frame usually outlasts the face and the lights. A flex face fades slowly in strong sun, and the LED driver is the part most likely to fail. Ask for warranty terms in writing, part by part, because the driver and the face wear out at different rates.

  • Keep it readable from the road at night. Use the brand name and one line at most, in large, bold letters. Pick light backgrounds or strong colours that glow well; dark artwork stays dull when lit. Check a lit sample at real size.

  • Usually, yes. Most municipal bodies regulate shop signs by size, projection over the footpath and lighting, and many charge a fee or advertisement tax. We check the local rules before installation and keep the permission paperwork with the outlet record. General guidance, not legal advice.

  • Flex is cheaper, lighter and fine for most dealer boards. Vinyl on acrylic gives crisper edges and richer colour, and suits showrooms and premium outlets. For very large boards, flex is often the practical choice. Ask for a lit sample of each before you decide.

  • Yes. Our servicing team is based in cities across India, and we plan the rollout hybrid and install route by route. We meet you in your city at least once every three months. Each outlet gets a photo record (see glow sign boards in Kolkata). Sales offices in real estate use them too.
