/ 01 SEO for hotels

Rank where guests decide.Keep the booking yours.

Many guests find a hotel on an online travel agency (OTA) such as MakeMyTrip, then search its name on Google, and that last search decides who gets the booking. PromotEdge does SEO (search engine optimisation) for hotels and resorts, so your property is found on Google Search, Maps and AI answers.

We send those guests to your own booking engine, phone and WhatsApp. More rooms are then booked direct, and less commission goes out.

An online travel agency (OTA) is a booking site such as MakeMyTrip, Booking.com or Agoda. It keeps a commission on each booking. So hotel SEO has two jobs: win the guest who searches your name, and the guest who searches for a room or an occasion before knowing you.

Google's hotel box shows prices with links to book, some marked "Ads" and some free. Google says hotels pay no fee for free booking links. If your booking engine sends your rates, your own price can sit beside the OTA prices.

How a hotel balances OTAs, ads, events and press is on our hospitality marketing page.

The basics

11 items

For hotels and resorts

6 items
  • Hotel name exactly as on the signboardGoogle: extra words in the name can get a profile suspended.
  • Booking engine connected to GoogleGoogle: free booking links cost nothing. Your provider may set them up.
  • A separate Google profile for each restaurant or bar insideGoogle: it needs its own profile and name.
  • A review routine with no giftsGoogle Maps policy: no incentives for reviews.
  • A page for each room type, package and venueGood practice: real photos, capacity and a book button on each.
  • Hotel schema on room pagesGood practice: schema.org/Hotel carries check-in time and amenities.

/ 04 What usually gets in the way

What gets in the wayand the way through.

“Guests search our hotel's name, and OTA pages show above our own website.”

Fix your home page title and Google listing, then connect your rates, so your own price sits beside the OTA prices.

“Our website has one "Rooms" page for six room types.”

Give each room type, package and wedding venue its own page, with real photos, capacity and a book button.

“Our site looks lovely on a laptop and takes ages to open on a phone.”

Test on an ordinary phone over mobile data, then fix the heaviest photo sliders and booking widgets first.

“Our Google listing still shows the old restaurant and the wrong amenities.”

Claim and verify the profile, then correct the amenities, photos and category.

“We are rated 4.1 on Google, and the resort next door is 4.6.”

Ask every guest at checkout, not only the happy ones, and answer each review in your own voice.

/ 05 How we work

From the name searchto your booking engine.

  1. 01

Count what search sends you today

We read your booking engine reports and call logs by source, and note last season's OTA commission. Our analytics and tracking set-up then tags every direct booking, call and chat that starts on Google.

  2. 02

    Fix the Google hotel listing

We claim and verify your Business Profile. The name stays exactly as on your sign, because Google can suspend profiles that add extra words. A restaurant or bar inside the hotel can have its own profile.

  3. 03

Put your own price on Google

Your booking engine may already be able to send your rates to Google. We check, and set it up with your provider or through Google's Hotel Center. Then the price Google shows must match your booking page.

  4. 04

Give every room, package and venue its own page

One page per room type and per package, and wedding pages with lawns, halls and guest counts. Each ends in a book button or an enquiry form. For guests who need another language, Google advises a separate web address for each version. Our language partners write the translation.

  5. 05

Make pages fast, grow reviews honestly, and report every month

A good page shows its main content within 2.5 seconds, Google says. We shrink photos and add hotel schema, code that tells search engines your check-in time and amenities. We ask every guest for a review at checkout. Each month you see direct bookings, calls, chats and enquiries from search, and the commission you kept.

Tell us what’s not working. We’ll send you an honest one-page growth plan, free.

Google's free booking links cost a hotel nothing. Its review rules and an Indian standard cover how reviews are asked for.

SEO for hotels in depth

The rules that matter

Google says hotels pay no fee for free booking links, and ranks them by how useful they are to travellers. Bids have no effect on their order. Google's review policy bans incentives for reviews. India's IS 19000:2022 standard, launched in November 2022, covers how platforms collect and publish reviews.

How buyers decide

Our view: guests meet your hotel on a travel site or Instagram, then search your name on Google for real photos, recent reviews and your own price. They drop out at a slow page, an old photo or a price that differs between pages.

What you can do, and what is not ours

You can ask every guest for a review, keep your Google profile true, and ask your booking engine provider about free booking links. Google's order of results, the OTAs' own pages and what AI assistants say are not ours to control.

How we would deliver, and why each step

We count today's direct bookings first, because the gain must be shown in rupees. We fix the name search before new pages, because it is the cheapest booking to win. We report commission kept, because rankings alone do not pay the bills.

/ 06 Cost

What affects the cost of SEO for a hotel.

We don't publish a price list. We quote against a written scope. Photo shoots, translation and any booking engine charge are billed at actuals.

What affects the cost

  • Properties and room types. One boutique resort needs fewer pages than a hotel group.
  • Your website and booking engine. Can it send your rates to Google?
  • Weddings and languages. Each adds pages to write.

How we quote

  1. A free 30-minute strategist call on your OTA commission
  2. We check your name search, listing and page speed, then send a one-page plan
  3. A written quote follows within 2 working days. Nothing starts until you approve it

What you get in the quote

  • Listing fixes and the rate connection
  • Room, package, wedding and local-area pages
  • The monthly report: direct bookings and commission kept

How it is billed

Way of workingWhen it fits
Set-up projectListing clean-up, rate connection and the first room pages (timeline confirmed in the quote)
Monthly retainerNew pages, reviews and the booking report (minimum 3 months, 30 days' notice to stop)
/ 07 What happens next

What happensafter you ask.

For projects we think we can help, this is how it goes.

  1. 01

    A strategist calls you

In one working day: a 30-minute call with one of our strategists about your business and what is not working.

  2. 02

    You get a 1-page plan

A short, honest plan: what to fix first and what we would do. It is free.

  3. 03

A quote, if you want one

If you want to go ahead, we send a quote within 2 working days.

SEO usually shows results in 3 to 6 months. Contracts start at 3 months, with 30 days' notice to stop.

We look at your business first. Marketing comes second.

Straight answers.

  • It wins guests on Google before they book somewhere else. Guests who search your name find your site and your price first. Guests who search for a room or an occasion land on your page. Each direct booking keeps the OTA commission with you, and we show that sum every month.

  • It depends on your properties, room types, languages and pages, and on the state of your website. We don't publish a price list. After a free 30-minute call we send a one-page plan, and a written quote follows within 2 working days. SEO results usually come in 3 to 6 months. Listing fixes can help sooner.

  • They are links in Google's hotel price box that send guests to a booking site, which can be your own. Google says hotels pay no fee for them, and paying for ads doesn't change their order. Ask your booking engine whether it can connect your rates, or use Google's Hotel Center.

  • No. Google's review policy bans offering payment, discounts, free goods or services for reviews. It also bans asking only happy guests. India also has a standard on online reviews, IS 19000:2022, from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). So ask every guest, offer nothing in return, and reply to every review. General guidance, not legal advice.

  • Yes, with a different mix. Restaurants win mostly on Google Maps, so the listing, photos, menu and reviews do most of the work. Keep the menu as text, not only a PDF. A restaurant inside a hotel can have its own Google profile. See restaurant marketing and cloud kitchens, which sell mostly through apps.
