Ask the buyer why they chose, or left.

Most teams hold three theories on why people buy or walk away, and nobody has asked a buyer lately. PromotEdge talks to your buyers, visits the shops and homes where your product is used, and reads what people ask and review online.

Your marketing then speaks to the reasons buyers give.

We do ten interviews before any survey. Ten honest talks with recent, lost and near buyers show you why. A survey comes only if a question is left that needs counting.

We'd rather be blunt than pleasing: ten interviews tell you why, not how many. If eight of ten buyers mention late delivery, you have a strong lead, not a figure for your whole market.

Pick this page when your question is about people. Dealers, prices and brand health sit in wider market research. It helps manufacturers and property developers, and also clinics and diagnostic centres that want to know why patients choose them.

/ 03 Common hurdles

What usually gets in the way,and the way through.

“Buyers drop out at the last step, and we only guess why.”

We call lost buyers, with consent, and sort the reasons: price, trust, delivery or a better offer.

“Sales says price, dealers say the scheme, reviews say delivery.”

Interviews put the stories side by side. Counter checks sit under mystery shopping.

“Our last survey said everyone likes us, and sales did not move.”

People are polite in surveys. In interviews we ask what they did last time, not what they would do.

“We want a premium range and don't know who will pay for it.”

We talk to buyers who pay more elsewhere, and to those who refuse. Then take it to a go-to-market plan.

“The engineer recommends us. The purchase head signs. We only met the dealer.”

In B2B, the one who recommends, pays and uses are often three people. We interview each.

“Our ads sound like us, not like our buyers.”

We bring back buyers' exact lines, grouped by reason. They often make better headlines.

/ 04 How we work

Ten interviews first, then decide what to count.

Typical stages for one or two buyer types. We confirm the timeline in the quote. Our servicing team is based in cities across India.

  1. 01

Your sales team, numbers and reviews

We ask why orders are won, lost or discounted, then write the three guesses buyers must prove or kill.

  2. 02

    Ten interviews, then a pause

We read the notes with you. If the same reasons keep returning, we stop. If new ones appear, we do ten more.

  3. 03

    Visits, where they help

A day at a counter or in a few homes shows what buyers do, not only what they say.

  4. 04

A small survey, only if needed

It tests only what the interviews found. If interviews answered the question, we skip it.

  5. 05

    Findings, then a small test

We share what we found and what we are unsure of, then pick one change to test. For ads, see performance marketing.

How we deliver it, and why

How your business model changes the plan

A D2C (direct-to-customer) brand reads reviews and search questions first. A dealer-led B2B (business-to-business) firm interviews dealers and the trade people who recommend it. A services firm asks recent clients how they chose.

Consent comes first (general guidance, not legal advice)

India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 asks for a notice, then consent that is free, specific and informed, and as easy to withdraw as to give. We take only what the study needs and delete it afterwards.

  1. Talk to ten before you count. Interviews tell you why. Counting only helps after you know what to count. Ten noted talks.
  2. Ask about last time, not next time. People are polite about the future and exact about the past. Buyer stories in their own words.
  3. Interview the recommender, the signer and the user. In B2B they are often three people. A map of who decides.
  4. Turn each finding into one small test. Act on numbers: a finding that changes nothing was only interesting. One change to test first.

AI in consumer research: today and next

Today: meeting notes

Google Meet can take notes on an eligible Workspace or Google AI plan. Its spoken languages do not include Hindi, and Google says the summary can be incomplete or inaccurate. So we listen ourselves.

Source: Google Meet Help, Take notes for me, read 10 October 2026

Today: languages

Google's help page lists Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Odia among Gemini web app languages, but not Bhojpuri or Santali. That helps with first drafts. A native speaker checks the words before we quote a buyer.

Next

Our view: AI will speed up first drafts, and buyers' own words still need a human ear. Want a study planned that way? Ask us.

/ 05 Cost

What affects the cost of consumer research.

No price list. These things move the number.

We do not publish a price list, because ten interviews and a multi-town study are different jobs. The smallest first step is a free 30-minute call with a strategist and a one-page plan, for projects we think we can help.

What affects the cost

  • How many buyer types you want to hear from
  • How many interviews we do, and whether a survey follows
  • How hard those buyers are to reach
  • How many towns we visit
  • Languages, and writing out the recordings

How we quote

  1. We talk about what you want to understand and what your sales team already knows
  2. We write a scope: buyer types, interviews, visits, any survey and the report
  3. We send the quote within 2 working days, each cost on its own line, before you approve

What you get in the quote

  • The buyer types and the number of interviews
  • Any visits, with the towns named
  • The report, the raw quotes and a findings meeting
  • Travel and thank-you gifts at actuals

Compare quotes on one point: how many interviews come before a survey? A report with no buyer words is an opinion.

/ 06 What happens next

What happensafter you ask.

For projects we think we can help, this is how it goes.

  1. 01

    A strategist calls you

In one working day: a 30-minute call with one of our strategists about your business and what is not working.

  2. 02

    You get a 1-page plan

A short, honest plan: what to fix first and what we would do. It is free.

  3. 03

A quote, if you want one

If you want to go ahead, we send a quote within 2 working days.

We confirm the timeline in the quote. Contracts start at 3 months, with 30 days' notice to stop.

Straight answers.

  • It finds out why people buy, why they do not, and what words they use, by asking and watching. We interview buyers, visit shops and homes, read reviews and search questions, and run a small survey when something needs counting.

  • To learn why, we start with ten interviews for each buyer type. If the same reasons keep coming, that is enough. If new ones appear, we do ten more. A survey needs enough people from each group, and we print its sample size.

  • Yes. Business buyers are few, so interviews often suit them better than a survey. We talk to the person who signs, the one who recommends, such as an engineer, and the dealer in between. See our work for industrial manufacturers.

  • General guidance, not legal advice: your legal team should see the plan. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 asks for a notice, then clear consent that is easy to withdraw. We take only what the study needs and delete it afterwards. People under 18 need a parent's or guardian's consent.

  • Our in-house team of 65+ people does the work, with industry consultants and partner agencies where a job needs them. Our servicing team is based in cities across India. Phone and video interviews work anywhere, and we visit you in your city regularly.

  • Research pays when it changes something you can measure. We turn each finding into one small test, such as a new line in sales calls. Then we watch enquiries, cost per qualified lead and the discount your team gives to close.
