Pictures that sell the garment, not just the mood.

Many fashion returns start with one thing: a photo that promised a colour or a fit the garment did not keep. PromotEdge plans catalogue, lookbook and marketplace shoots so shoppers buy with confidence and keep what they buy.

A kurta drapes, creases and changes colour under different lights, so clothing needs models, styling, steaming and a plan for every size and colour. For plain packshots, see product photography.

An online buyer asks three things: is this the real colour, how does the fabric feel, will it fit me? If your pictures do not answer, the shopper leaves, or buys and returns it. A return costs the courier both ways.

We believe in process, so each style gets a shot list: front, back, side, fabric close-up, fit, and the views each marketplace asks for. Files are colour-checked and named by SKU (one code per style, size and colour).

We also shoot lookbooks and campaign pictures, planned with the catalogue. Fashion brands and retail and jewellery stores plan it this way.

/ 03 What usually gets in the way

What gets in the way of fashion pictures, and the way through.

“Customers return orders, saying the colour looked different online.”

We set colour with a reference card, then match it by hand to the real fabric. Reds, navy, black and pastels get the most care.

“Our catalogue looks like it came from five different shoots.”

One shot list, fixed lighting and the same crop for every style give your listings one clean look.

“We have 400 new styles for the festive season and six weeks.”

Big drops run like a production line: styles grouped by type and colour, models only where needed.

“The marketplace keeps sending our listings back for image problems.”

Each marketplace sets its own rules, and they change. We check every file against your category's current guide.

“Our lookbook is beautiful, but nobody can see the clothes.”

The garment stays the hero. A few clear full-length frames per look also feed ads and listings.

“Everything is on one slim model, and customers say it fits differently.”

Where it helps your buyers, we cast more than one size and note the height and size worn.

/ 04 How a fashion shoot works

From style listto listing-ready files.

A catalogue shoot usually takes two to four weeks from brief to final files, as planning guidance. A campaign with casting and location usually needs longer.

  1. 01

    Brief and style list

Styles, sizes, colours, where each picture is used, and the go-live date.

  2. 02

    Shot list

Each style is marked on-model, flat lay or ghost mannequin. You approve it before anyone books a model.

  3. 03

    Samples, casting, styling

Samples arrive clean and steamed. Models suit your buyers and sizes.

  4. 04

    Shoot with live review

Pictures are checked on a big screen against the shot list and a colour card.

  5. 05

    Edit and colour-match

Creases are cleaned up and each colour matched by hand. You review a first set.

  6. 06

    Deliver for every platform

How we deliver it, and why

How your business model changes the plan

A D2C label needs a look of its own across site and ads. A marketplace seller needs many styles fast, to each platform's rules. A wholesaler or boutique supplier needs a lookbook buyers can flip through. Workwear and uniform catalogues for healthcare, industrial and real estate firms follow the same shot list.

  1. Write the shot list before the shoot day. Late changes on set cost more than changes on paper. A list you approve.
  2. Set colour with a reference card. Colour is a common reason for returns. Colour-matched files.
  3. Cast for your buyers' sizes. Shoppers judge fit from someone like them. Height and size noted per image.
  4. Check each file against the platform guide. Guides change, and rejections delay launches. Files ready to upload.
  5. Compare returns and conversion afterwards. A shoot is part of selling. A before-and-after note.

AI in fashion photography: today and next

Today

Adobe says its Firefly editor can remove items, expand backgrounds and generate a new background, and that outputs carry Content Credentials. These help with backdrops and clean-up. A generated garment is not your garment, so true colour and fit still come from a real shoot.

Our view: editing will get faster, and shoppers will still want the real fabric. Want us to show where AI saves time in your catalogue? Ask us.

/ 05 Cost

What affects the cost of fashion photography.

No price list. These things move the number.

Fashion shoots vary from one flat lay to a full lookbook with models. Models, make-up, locations and studio hire are charged at actuals, shown before you approve.

What affects the cost

  • Styles, sizes and colours to shoot
  • Shoot type: flat lay and ghost mannequin need less set-up than on-model
  • Models: how many, how long, and where pictures are used
  • Stylist, make-up, studio or location, travel
  • Retouching per image, and speed

How we quote

  1. You tell us your range: styles, platforms, season.
  2. We look at your samples and agree the shoot type per style.
  3. We write the scope: shot list, models, edits, file sizes.
  4. One quote, each cost on its own line.

What you get in the quote

  • The shot list with shoot type and angles
  • Models, stylist and make-up, each its own line
  • Edited, colour-matched images per style
  • Model usage period, and whether raw files are handed over

When you compare quotes, check edited images per style, retouching level, model usage period and raw files.

Straight answers.

  • It depends on styles, colours and shoot type, plus models, styling and retouching. Flat lay and ghost mannequin usually cost less per style than on-model. Models, make-up and studio costs are shown at actuals, line by line, before you approve the quote.

  • On-model shows fit and drape, so it suits dresses and kurtas. Flat lay is quick and clean, good for T-shirts and kidswear. Ghost mannequin shows shape without a model. Many brands mix all three, choosing the shoot type style by style.

  • A lookbook shows a whole collection as styled outfits, for buyers, store staff and your website. A campaign shoot makes a few hero pictures around one idea, for ads and hoardings. Planned together, one set of samples covers both, which saves time and money.

  • Yes. Each marketplace publishes its own image guide for fashion sellers, and the guides change. They differ on background, size and number of images. We read the current guide for your category before the shoot and check every file against it.

  • Yes. As general guidance, every model should sign a release saying where the pictures may be used and for how long. Ask for usage that matches your plans, because extending it later costs more. Keep signed copies with the files. This is not legal advice.

  • As planning guidance, a catalogue usually takes two to four weeks from brief to final files. Late samples are the most common delay. Lookbooks and campaigns usually need longer. We confirm the timeline in the quote, once we have seen your style list and sample dates.

  • Our in-house team of 65+ people delivers the shoot, with industry consultants and partner agencies where a job needs them. Our servicing team is based in cities across India. We meet you at least once every three months, and come to your city or site when a shoot needs it.

  • Compare before and after on returns for colour or fit, the listing's conversion rate and the click rate on your main image. If returns stay high, the cause may be the size chart or the fabric description, and we will tell you plainly.
