/ 01 Bulk SMS service

Fewer texts, sent right, that people act on.

Plenty of brands send thousands of texts and cannot say what any of them sold. SMS pays when people agreed to get the text and you can count the result.

PromotEdge plans and runs bulk SMS service across India, so your texts bring enquiries, visits and orders.

SMS works on every phone, with no app and no data. Our WhatsApp marketing page shows where it sits next to WhatsApp. We are not a telecom operator or an SMS gateway: messages go through a registered provider. We handle the plan, registrations, list, words and results.

It suits clinics sending reminders, developers confirming site visits, and manufacturers keeping dealers posted. We start with people who opted in, test one message small, check it against your sales record, then scale. We say no to a bought or scraped list: it breaks TRAI's rules.

Consent and opt-outMap where each number came from; explicit consent goes through the operator's system from a 127xxx short codeA consent record and an opt-out list
Links and numbersWhitelist every link and call-back number before useAn up-to-date whitelist
Writing and testsShort texts, one action, inside TRAI's template limits; two versions to a small listTested templates, a note on the winner

Our beliefWe know digital inside out, and we think like an Indian business.

/ 03 What usually gets in the way

What gets in the way of SMS,and the way through.

“Our messages stopped going out, and nobody told us why.”

Often a link or call-back number was never whitelisted (operators block those since 1 October 2024), a template sits in the wrong category, or a header went unused for 90 days. We fix each gap.

“We put offers into our order-alert template, because it gets past DND.”

Under TRAI's 2025 rules, an alert with any promotion mixed in counts as promotional. Wrongly registered templates can be blacklisted; repeat offences can suspend sending for a month.

“We bought a list of numbers and sent offers to all of them.”

People who blocked promotions won't get them, and the rest can complain. TRAI's September 2026 change lets operators act after three complaints in ten days if their spam system has also flagged the sender.

“A customer opted out, and we kept texting them.”

Every promotional SMS must carry an opt-out. After one, you can't ask for consent again for 90 days, though they can opt back in any time.

“We text enquiries weeks after they asked.”

TRAI's September 2026 change allows enquiry-based messages for only seven days, with the enquiry in writing or digital and kept as a record. We set up the record and a reminder.

“We send many texts but can't say what any sold, and replies go to a number nobody checks.”

What can't be measured can't be achieved. We tag links, use offer codes, and route replies and missed calls to one inbox with a named owner, in a simple CRM (where every enquiry is kept) if you have none.

/ 04 How we start

Small list first, then scale what pays.

  1. 01

Week 1: look at who said yes

Your list, where each number came from, your DLT registrations and last sends. We agree with your sales head what a good enquiry is.

  2. 02

Weeks 1 to 2: fix the base

Headers, templates and categories corrected; links whitelisted; opt-outs pulled out. Nothing big goes out before this.

  3. 03

Weeks 2 to 3: test one message

Two versions go to a small opted-in list, each with its own tagged link or offer code.

  4. 04

Weeks 3 to 4: read the results

Clicks, replies, opt-outs and complaints, checked against enquiries and orders. Your sales team says which were real.

  5. 05

Month 2 onwards: scale, change or stop

If cost per enquiry holds, we send to more. If WhatsApp or email suits a message better, we tell you.

Tell us what’s not working. We’ll send you an honest one-page growth plan, free.

How we deliver it, and why

How your business model changes the plan

A D2C brand leads with order and delivery updates. A clinic or school leads with reminders. A developer leads with site-visit confirmations. A dealer-led B2B maker leads with stock and scheme notices to dealers.

  1. Start with people who opted in. They are the ones who read, and the ones the rules protect. A list with the source of each number.
  2. Fix registrations before sending. A wrong category or an unwhitelisted link blocks the send. A register of headers and templates.
  3. Test two versions on a small list. A message that worked for one brand is only a guess for you. A note on which version won.
  4. Read results against sales. A delivery report says the text arrived, not what it sold. Enquiries and orders per send.

AI in SMS: today and next

Today

The Tribune reported on 26 September 2024 that Airtel's network-based AI system alerts customers to suspected spam calls and SMS, and that every SMS is scanned by an AI algorithm against a database of blacklisted links. That is the filter your texts now meet.

Source: The Tribune (India), 26 September 2024, read 10 October 2026

Next

Our view: filters will get stricter, and TRAI's September 2026 change already ties complaints to operator flags. Clean consent, honest categories and short, plain templates are the safe route. Want us to check yours? Ask us.

/ 05 Cost

What affects the cost of bulk SMS.

No price list. These things move the number.

The fee follows your scope. SMS charges and registration fees are paid at actuals, on their own line.

What affects the cost

  • Messages each month, and segments
  • Whether DLT registrations, headers and templates exist or need fixing
  • Templates we write and test
  • How much of your list needs fresh, recorded consent
  • Links to your CRM or store for tracking

How we quote

  1. We ask what a good enquiry or order is worth, and how your team follows up
  2. We look at your list, registrations and last sends
  3. A written scope, test plan and target cost per enquiry
  4. Our fee and the SMS charges on separate lines

What you get in the quote

  • The DLT check and agreed fixes
  • Templates in the right categories
  • Consent and opt-out records
  • Whitelisting, small tests, and a monthly report

When you compare quotes, ask who registers your headers, in whose name, and how opt-outs are handled. GST applies to our fee.

/ 06 What happens next

Straight answers.

  • A bulk SMS service sends one message to many people from a registered sender name. We manage registrations, templates, consent, tests and reports for you. Texts go out through a registered SMS provider, because we are not a telecom operator or an SMS gateway.

  • They show the kind of message. Under TRAI's 2025 rules, -P marks promotional, -S service, -T transactional and -G government messages, so a customer can tell an offer from an alert at a glance. This is general guidance, not legal advice.

  • Not without the right consent. DND (do not disturb) is a preference a customer sets, for example by texting BLOCK PROMO to 1909. The exception is explicit consent recorded through the operator's system. OTPs still go through. Check details with your counsel.

  • Seven days, if you rely on the enquiry alone. TRAI's September 2026 change allows messages based on an enquiry for seven days from it, with a written or digital record. After that you need their consent, so ask in your first reply.

  • Often both. SMS reaches every phone and suits OTPs, alerts and reminders. WhatsApp allows images, buttons and two-way chat. If your customers live on WhatsApp, we will tell you to send less SMS, and we will say so in the plan before you spend. The WhatsApp marketing page compares the options in detail.

  • Yes. Our servicing team is based in cities across India and works hybrid and remotely. We visit you in your city at least once every three months, and SMS itself runs online for any city or language you sell in.

  • The monthly SMS report leads with enquiries and orders from each send, and the cost per enquiry, then delivery, clicks, replies and opt-outs, so you can judge every send. Our in-house team of 65+ people does the work, with consultants and partner agencies where needed.

  • Ongoing SMS marketing work has a 3-month minimum, because registrations, templates and test sends take the first weeks, and results show only after several sends. After that you can stop with 30 days' notice. We put the terms in writing in the quote before work starts.
