What did that adreally do?

A campaign teaches most when someone explains the idea behind it, not only the film. Every week we read the Indian marketing press and decode a few new campaigns, and once a month we go deep on one.

We say what the brand did, why it can work, what the report says about results and what a smaller business can copy.

We read the open trade press: sites such as afaqs, Storyboard18, Social Samosa, BestMediaInfo, adgully, Indian Television, Media4Growth and MediaInfoline. We link the original report in every post and credit the brand and the agency as the report names them. The words and the reading are ours.

We state only the facts and figures a report gives, with its name. If a report gives no results, we say so. We do not rank campaigns and we do not call one the best. These brands and people are public examples. They are not PromotEdge clients or endorsers unless we say so.

Each weekly post covers three to five campaigns from different industries. For each one you get what they did and why it works. You also get what the report says about impact, a similar idea from another industry and one thing you can copy this week.

Our beliefWe look at your business first. Marketing comes second.

Straight answers.

  • There is one roundup every week with three to five new Indian campaigns, and one deep-dive a month on a single campaign. Each post shows the date it was published and the date we last checked its sources, so you can see how fresh it is.

  • From reports in Indian marketing and advertising trade sites, which we name and link in each post. We open each report and write the explanation in our own words. We do not copy text or images, and we credit the brand and agency as reported.

  • No. A report that a campaign launched is not proof that it sold more. We state only the results a report gives, with its source, and when a report gives none we say so. Our reading of why an idea can work is marked as our reading.

  • Not the budget, but often the idea. A festival ritual, a local language, a customer story or a clear promise costs little. Each decode ends with one action you can take this week, sized for a small team and a small budget, so you can try the idea before you spend more.

  • No. We pick campaigns that teach something and have enough facts in the report. We skip alcohol brands, real-money gaming, medical promotion, religious bodies and political advertising. We also skip campaigns where the report gives too little to explain, and we say when a report is thin.
