How to plan cricket season marketing ideas
The quick answer. The best cricket season marketing ideas for small business fit one buyer you know, carry one offer with a real end date, and can be counted. Check six things before you spend: who watches, the one offer, the date, the claim, the words and pictures, and the count. (PromotEdge editorial view, 7 November 2026.)
- Who watches. Ask your sales team which of your buyers follow the season, and how: at home, at a cafe, on a phone.
- The one offer. One combo, one guide or one slot is easier to explain than a list of discounts.
- The date. Give a real last day to order or book. The season is reported to run for about two months, so keep your plan flexible.
- The claim. Say only what you can prove. Our ASCI Code note lists the rules for ads and claims.
- The words and pictures. Use your own. See the rules below.
- The count. Decide before you start what you will count: bookings, orders or replies.
Team names, logos and player pictures: what the commentators say
What a public source says. SpicyIP, a blog by trade mark lawyers, wrote in April 2026 that ambush marketing, in the sense of referring to an event without using any IP-protected material, is hard for the owners of a league to stop. It reports that the Delhi High Court held, in a case between a team and a taxi app, that a humorous ad with a line similar to the team's name, with no confusion and no use of the team's goodwill, was within permissible limits. The authors argue that non-deceptive ambush marketing is creative competition. (SpicyIP, "Crashing the Game, Not the Law", 26 April 2026, read 7 November 2026.)
What it means for you. That is one view on one case, and it is not safe cover. Using a team's name, a player's name or picture, or a league logo can still bring a notice, a takedown or a court case, and commentators say the league also sets its own licence rules, which we could not read. So for IPL marketing for a small business, keep the marks out: no team name, no player name or picture, no league logo, no team colours, and no line that suggests you are a sponsor. Talk about the season, the match night and the final, in your own words. If you want to use a mark or a name, ask a lawyer first. This guide is information, not legal advice.
Betting, fantasy money and the online gaming ban
What the law summary says. A summary of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 on the government's Law-as-Code portal says the Act completely prohibits online money games, their advertisement and related fund transfers, and lists penalties of up to three years' imprisonment, a fine of up to one crore rupees, or both. (lawascode.negd.in, read 7 November 2026.)
What it means for you. Do not advertise, hint at or link to any online game played for money, and do not run "predict the score and win" contests with a prize. Keep the cricket mood about watching together, food, gear and plans. If a partner or an influencer offers a deal that touches money games, say no and ask a lawyer.
Plan around the season
Use the spare days. The reported start is about 10 March and the final about 15 May 2027, but treat both as plans until the board confirms. Set your offers for the first weeks and keep a few spare slots for the final weeks. A made-up example. Say a cafe in Pune has regular office buyers who like to watch together. It offers a match-night table and a snack combo, with a booking cut-off and a picture of its own table, with no team name, no player and no logo. It sends one message to past buyers who agreed to hear from it, and counts bookings and covers. The example is made up.
What a business can do this week
- List the buyers who follow the season and how they watch. Ask your sales team.
- Pick one idea from the table and write its one offer and its last date.
- Check every word and picture for a team name, a player, a league logo, team colours or a hint of betting.
- Set up the count before you start: a sheet with bookings, orders or replies.
- Message only people who agreed to hear from you. See our WhatsApp marketing guide.
A word of care. These are ideas to test, not promises. This guide gives general information, not legal advice. For your own case, ask your lawyer. Rules and court decisions change, so check the latest on the day you plan.
